HEy Everyone, I had a question. Yesterday I was eating an apple and when I threw it away Flash got it back out and wanted to eat it. She wouldnt let it go and ate the core that was left. LOL, does anyone know why a dog would eat an apple?

there are only three "food" items that i know macey will not eat.
1. mustard greens 2. mushrooms 3. atomic fireball everything else she is likely to eat. including banana peels the big question is why you left the core it is the best part of the apple. |

Mine love apples especially Coxs. They'll eat pretty much all fruits and veg. Izzy can be selective sometimes and chews something up and then spits it out on the floor. Like brussel sprouts but after the green haze that came from the other two - never again. Have never smelled farts like that!

Benson will eat apples occassionally, same for pears. Went for a walk with my parents English springer and she found an apple on the way round, carried it all the wall home then ate it and wouldn't let anyone near it even to help cut it up.

Gandy loves pears and apples, but only certain ones. He like Fuji, gala and pink ladies and detests macintosh and red delicious. If Daddy gets the wrong kind at the store, Gandy will just play with them like a ball, but doesn't eat them.

Ok. I thought Donut was the only weirdo. We live in a neighborhood that used to be an apple orchard 100 yrs. ago. A few old trees still around. When we're out for a walk, she'll find 1/2 eaten apples the deer have munched on. Ewww!

I found this on the internet on the "Modern Dog Magazine" site in an article about "10 People Foods for Dogs". I knew I remembered that apple cores could be an issue, but it's actually the seeds. We had four apple trees in our back yard in Mitchell, SD where we used to live and had to keep the apples picked up to prevent Bubba from feasting daily on them.
********** 10 ?People? Foods for Dogs | Modern Dog magazine - the best dog magazine ever ********** Apples are wonderful crunchy treats for your dog. Apples with the skin on are full of plant chemicals (phytonutrients) that are thought to be protective against some types of cancer in humans. They are a source of vitamins A and C and fibre. Apple seeds, however, contain cyanide so your dog should not be allowed to eat the core. Though the effects of a few apple seeds will likely not harm your dog, the deleterious effects can accumulate over time if allowed to eat apple seeds regularly
