Newbie to the Bay
Hi, I'm Toni and recently was given a 6 mth old male Basset Hound named Buster. He is tri-color and that is all I know. He had only received his first round of puppy shots and had no papers. Over the last week, he received up to current vaccinations and has been neutered. (Thanks for the advice about the doughnut, my legs appreciate it.) he loves to put his teeth on us but has never bruised or broke skin. (Thankful for, my last dog was not so gracious to others. German Shepard) He is basically a good dog, even scratching at the floor to go out. Will try to get a picture up soon. Thanks again and in advance for your wonderful support and encouragement.

Welcome to the forum!!! You will fall in love with your new fur kid. Bassets are wonderful loving dogs and they can be a wonderful family member. They are food driven and will do most anything to get treats. Use treats to train and you will get their rapt attention.
They can be stubborn, and are not instant into obeying like a lab or some other breeds. They have to think about it and decide if its worth the effort. They are scent hounds and hunters, and if on the trail of an exciting scent "COME" is not in their vocabulary. Also their nose can lead them into trouble. A Basset will keep you laughing with their quirky antics and if not already you will be in love with Buster. They are great family dogs, love everyone, and always get a lot of attention from strangers. Be sure to post pictures.

Welcome to both of you.... all I can say is if he hasn't completely stolen your heart and turned you into his slave... be prepared!

Welcome Toni and Buster! I only owned a basset for 3 weeks and is completely at her mercy already. She rules the roost, both people and dog alike! But we love her so much! My husband is captivated by her droopy eyes. It's almost like you can't fault her for wrong things done!
