I got one many years ago online called a "Canine Camper" for $75. It's nicely made, folds flat. I got an XL, and am sorry I did. Too big. (not sure if they're still being made).
At the time, I was thinking my two would sleep in it together. Instead, 1 basset and a cat...too roomy.

LOL I bought Eclair one whenwe first got her, put her in it (was told she was crate trainied when we adopted her) for a couple trials while in the house no problem. I put her in it for a 1 hour trial and leave the house only to retrun home and be greeted by the door with a basset half out the crate through a hole in the mesh window.
Eclair has never been in a crate since! |

I got a large soft crate for traveling with my puppy at Tuesday Mornings tuesdaymorning - /dog-travel-crate/1220584.jsp for $60. It pretty durable, but my puppy uses it as a hamster ball. We end up having to wedge him in a corner with a chair in order for him to stay put. You can't leave your hound unattended in the crate for a long period. They'll simply roll away or chew their way out.

omg, these were the funniest stories! love how it is basset-dependent. and how smart bassets are to make their own hamster balls. i mean, why should hamsters get all the fun?
also about how bassets broke out! well they were all very helpful. i got one off of Amazon, perhaps i'll have to post a pic of me in it sometime. although fairly warned to go smaller, the person didn't and yeah it is pretty big for me! we are using the soft crate for training/practice, ultimately to help with Agility skills. I'm learning Crate Games, and am now at the point where I am learning to run into the crate from far distances. so we need a soft crate we can easily set up outdoors on a field. we'll see how it goes! so yeah it's not to stay in for long periods of time. for that, i've got my metal wire crate. it would be difficult and painful (tho prob not impossible for bassets) to use it as a hamster ball lol. thanks pals! --Worm
