When Flushy tries to howl it sounds like an animal is dying... I can tell she is trying to howl but it wont come out... Should I be worried?... It is funny to hear and i try not to laugh but it is hard.

I am dying for the day that Ellie finds her howl! Jake has it and I am encouraging him to teach her the art. Funny thing is, Abby had to teach him and she was 11 yrs younger than him! Nothing brings a smile to my face like a good Arrrrroooooo from a basset!

I've only heard Barney howl twice....most beautiful sound but real, real soft..wish he would push it up some....now his sister, the beagle, howls all the time but still sounds like a sick donkey.

Bassets sing. I've only heard Lula howl a few times and Izzy if something is really going on but Margot howls on cue which is wonderful!

Ninja has that dying animal tone to her howl as well. The first time she did it, I was on the floor laughing. She doesn't howl often, but when she does, I always say she sounds like boy going through puberty with that weird cracking in her voice. Very different from Larsen's smooth deep howl.

My Princess Buttercup, a lady in every way. Ok sissy la la really as she much prefers whining, sounds like a grandpa moose when she howls! She's so deep & loud it really contradicts her girly sweet personality. One time my niece thought her brother was throwing up... "Nope honey... that's a bad dog howling!"

haha ok I'm glad my basset isn't the only one!!! Flushy usually howls when I let her out then I have to go inside to do something so she'll sit my the door and howl(or attempt to!) it is just so hard not to laugh!! and i agree it does remind me of a boy going through puberty!

My boys howl at ANYTHING. All it takes is one to get the other two started. When Hubert was really little I used to put on videos of other dogs howling to get him started. Now it doesn't take anything. Car passing by? A door closed? Brother has a toy? Windy day? All alerted by a howl. Toby's howl (because of his jaw?) and his bark all sound raspy, like he's a heavy smoker.
