I use this forum to look and see if any Bassets come up for rehoming locally. There was this lady on there a few months ago advertising a 5 week old Basset for 250 and as she lived close by I emailed her. By the time I did the dog had been rehomed. Tonight however she is on again with another Basset pup so I email her asking for details.

She tells me that she is rehoming as the dog is too needy and she has two small kids. So I ask about the other dog and she tells me she had the same issue there so she used the 250 to put towards another pup.

I told her to elaborate and maybe I could help her find some help so she could keep the pup and she went on to say that it needs too many walks, she thought they were lazy, it chews, it pees when it cant get out!!! And its leaving her tomorrow!!

So yet again another pup ends up god knows where due to selfishness and ill education.

It never ceases to amaze me that people get a dog and at the first sign of trouble they get rid. Ill bet their kids cause them agro but you wont find them on preloved under offers will you?

When we took Albie on I looked him in the eye that first night and said no matter what, you are stuck with us forever. It hasnt always been plain sailing but he is my family, we are his and that is that! Short of attacking the kids theres no incontinence, grumpy moods, chewing or barking that would make me leave him. Why do people find it so easy? Is it lack of attachment? I am so upset tonight.

Anyway Ive left my number if the new owners dont collect ive told her to call me.

I just hope that dog gets a forever home now like they would have here and after much talking to OH im calling Basset Rescue tomorrow to see if we they have someone Albie and I can love forever too.

Sadly, some people don't deserve a basset, let alone any dog, but don't realize that they can't "find" the perfect dog.

As a dog owner (any breed) you have to take the good with the bad. Usually, there is much more good

I just adopted a 6 month old basset. He's peed everywhere, chewed up a brand new somewhat expensive coffee table, scratched our new leather sofas, tormented our dogs (wanting to play) and kept me up at nights wanting to play. He's here forever, he's not going anywhere. He's just a puppy and I know that I just need to be trained, lol. I agree that people think that dogs "just know" what is acceptable behavior and what is not. I know that if he pees inside, it's mostly my fault for not recognizing his signs and not regularly taking him out. Buford is a sweet and very loving dog and after having him a week it would break my heart to have to let him go....

Stick with Buford, he will learn! He's still just a baby!

Oh he's not goin anywhere, lol. He's such a little brat, but how can you stay mad at those faces for very long??? :p

Don't people realize than humin kids do the same thing? Yet we're more willing to put time towards training our kids than our pets. When you accept a life into your home of any kind, it's family.

I agree!!! I love my dogs so much. I have a neighbor that has two dogs that live outside and get absolutely no human interaction whatsoever. It breaks my heart. My dogs are my family and I think anyone with an animal should treat theirs as family...

My brat has developed a taste for leather furniture. Our friends call him unruly. He's my baby and isn't going anywhere.

Penny jumps, pees, poops, sheds, scratches, barks, and steps on you when you try to sleep because she thinks my bed is her bed. I'm doing everything in my power to make sure she strays with me forever. She has bad habits, but that doesn't make her a bad dog.

There is no perfect dog. It took me a while to realize that, but it was an eye-opener when I did. They're like little kids and need the proper attention and love to be good dogs. I want to get a sibling for Penny one day and I honestly hope that he/she is just as quirky as Penny. :)

People just don't take the time to educate themselves on the breed of dog they want and what it requires. There would be a lot less dogs in rescues if they did. It burns me whenever I hear people say that. Some have this idea that dogs are disposable. Perhaps this lady should just get a stuffed animals next time!

By the way Penny has such a beautiful face!
