Default An update, some questions, the works

Tito is one week shy of seven months now, it is so hard to believe!

He is doing very well for the most part, he is healing up great after being fixed, and was only bitter about me not letting him play for a day or so! Yesterday he went to get the stiches taken out which meant a trip into the city using public transport (always an adventure)

He was amaizing! He walked like a pro, did not mind that random people came up to him screaming what giant ears you have, let people pet him, was in heaven after the vets when we met up with some friends at dominos he slept under the table and was rewarded with a good slice of pizza (yummm!)

As you all know Tito is my first dog so at this point I have some more questions for you guys...When did you start giving your guys two meals a day instead of three?

Tito and I just found out we have to move because the department (state more or less) in which we are living is going to be put under a state of seige (pretty much the army takes over they can search and house they want without warrents and they can take whoever they want without telling anyone or giving you a lawyer yikes!)

What should I expect with this move? How will thins impact potty training?

I attached some pictures, Tito with my host grandmother getting some food (she is a softy), Sleeping mid walk, and his fancy (fake nike) sweater!

Hey Tito...you're looking awfully handsome in your sweater...can't help you with the moving question but went from 3 feedings to 2 feedings at 6 months. I just had Barney fixed couple of weeks ago and vet said to take him off the puppy food and put on adult...also to decrease his intake in the next 6 weeks to 1/3 less. She said his weight right now is great, 52 lbs. at 11 months, for his size but that their metabolism slows down after neutering. I've heard different opinions on that but will gradually take it down and see.

Tito is such a sweet boy! He looks a lot like our Cannoli. We moved when 'nolli was about a year old and she was the only one of our dogs who didn't seem phased by it. She just settled right in wherever we were. Our other dogs were nervous and took some time. I hope Tito is easy going and handles the move well.

there is no telling but dogs tend to learn context specifical rather than generalize. so the cntext is generally important for the behavior and it takes a lot of different context before the behavior generalizes so if he has been exposed to a lot of different places ect that he had to be housetrained and exhibit those behavior there may not be a problem but it general one of those things it is better to assume he is not housetrainined in the new home and only give him more freedom when he earns it,. Keeping in mind because he a already learned the behavior in one context the second time a round the learning curve is much steeper and does not take that look to learn the behavior in a new context.

Wow Tito – you sure are a handsome young man – thanks for posting the photos. I’m sorry you have to move for the reason you do – must be scary for you. Over in the states we couldn’t even begin to imagine what that would be like.

If it’s possible spend as much time as possible with Tito. If all his surroundings are changing it’ll only help if he knows that you will still be there for him. I would pack up his stuff last – and unpack it first at your new house. I would also – once you move close off most of the house and start out with house training 101 – and watch what he does. Some dogs blend right in with their new surroundings – some need time – look to Tito to see how he’s handling it – and reassure him as much as possible that you’re still there for him.

Best of luck to you for your new adventure – please update us once you move –

Jen~

Wow, I don't fully understand the logistics or politics of it, but that new set up sounds oppressive, no wonder you are moving.

I wish you and Tito the best with your move. I have only moved one dog (not a basset) but Sophie adjusted just fine.

I think houndmomma has a good idea with the packing and unpacking of Tito's stuff.

I would also add that you might want to take a "tour" with him on his leash of your new digs (inside and out). Give him all the time he needs to sniff things over.

BTW, that photo of him napping on your hike is adorable!

Glad to see Tito is doing well. I was wondering did the surgery mellow him out at all? Barney the last week or so has been off the wall and harassing my spayed females. I am questioning whther I can wait any longer.

barneysmom-I will get back to you on that in a week or two...the week after was really hard because he was not suppose to play but wanted to so he got crazy and this weekend we stayed at my friends house (where we had a party with 11 ppl)

Thank you all for your advice. Tito and I are both very sad to be leaving our home but I am sure everything will work out in the end! As for why they do the state of seige is because the police are in the pockets of the drug runners so they feel they need to send inn outside help, but I do not understand the crazy rules that go into place and I am sure there will be abuse of power with this, which is so sad.
