Default Gross I know-but Dog and hairballs?

Hello all,

I haven't been on in a while! Charlie Sue is doing just great. She just celebrated her second birthday!

I had a question, though. A few days ago I woke up to Charlie throwing up. I was half asleep so I didn't check on it. When I got up, she had thrown up a huge hairball. I would say 4-5 inches in length and 1.5 inches in diameter. I read up on it and it sounds okay, esp. if she got it out of her system.

So is there anything we should do differently??

Thanks much!

That is a new one for me! I have dealt with Cats and hairballs, but never any breed of dog.

Happy 2nd Birthday Charlie Sue! I hope your humans spoiled your rotten!

Awww I remember Charlie Sue...have always loved the name Charlie for a girl!

Glad to hear she is getting on well. Not too sure about a hairball though, weird.

Thanks guys. Oh she is spoiled rotten, don't you worry.

But really, the hairball was the weirdest thing! I honestly thought she had gone to the bathroom, but instead it was a giant (I mean giant) sized ball of super compacted hair. I just wonder how that was in her tiny stomach for so long! I am just glad she got it up. They say it can cause problems otherwise if they don't!

Is she licking herself a lot? I have never seen a dog throw up a hair ball,in bassets anyway.Could she need groomed more often. If she is shedding that much maybe she needs a better food or again bathed more often.I'd be a little concerned that she could get a blockage.

Wow – this falls under my “learn something new every day” category – I’ve never heard of a dog with a hair ball – cats yep – but not dogs.

So I did a little searching and found this interesting site -

Very interesting
