Any advice for training Daisy to leave the cat alone??? Found out her previous owner let her chase cats all the time and never made her stop. She isn't out to hurt the cat, but she is driving me crazy. She will tree the cat any time she see's her in the house(cat stays hidden most of the time now). Daisy will bark, whine run after the cat. Thankfully the cat is declawed or Daisy wouldn't have eyes left I don't think. Daisy is 4 years old. Any suggests PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
UPDATE: We have made huge progress the past few days with Daisy and our cat. I sat down in the floor with the cat in my lap and let Daisy sniff the cat for what seemed like forever. The cat hissed and finally started sniffing Daisy back. I have done this daily for the last 3 days. Daisy still chases the cat but not as bad. The cat Charoltte and Daisy will rub noses about once a day now and the poor cat is starting to come out of hiding more now. Daisy will lay in her bed and quiver whenever she sees the cat but she doesn't go tearing after Charlotte like she did, so any progress is good progress... Not really sure about your problem....don't have a cat but anytime Barney develops behaviors that I can't live with, the only thing works is a spray bottle with water and enough vinegar to make it smell bad. I only spray in his direction...only takes one or two times and then just bringing the bottle out is enough for him to stop....I save the bottle for only the "big" stuff....only had to use it for jumping on people so far....figured if I used it too often, it would lose its effectiveness.

It's takes time to get any dog used to a cat, epsecially if they're used to chasing them. But I'm sorry...your cat has been declawed?? As in had her claws removed? On purpose?

Monty had his first claw in the face the other day from Motley the most evil cat in the world. You'd think he'd learn....... but no!
Olly got clawed by her once and hasn't been near her since. We have another cat called Gonzo but he's so lazy he's forgotten what his claws are for! |

Opus got a good few slaps from Diva as a pup, and learned the hard way to avoid claws, thereafter he followed her everwhere and adored her and she him. They spent 15 years together as best pals, and she died shortly after he died in October; he was 15, she was nearly 21.

I don't remember how long you have had Daisy ... but we have always had cats and a dog together. They just seem to work things out eventually...either the cat choses to befriend the dog or not .... the cat is in the position of power especially with a basset. A cat is more agile and can certainly jump higher and faster. I would also if they are really driving you insane put up a baby gate that the cat can use to escape.
In our house, the cat was raised from 10 weeks by Paisley and they are the best of pals.... the cat seems to think he is a basset. That being said 90% of the time Cairo the cat is the instigator of most tussels... he waits until Paisley is realxed or sleeping to plan his attacks and is a master of jugular biting and heel nipping and the fight is on. Paisley also waits until the cat is sound asleep in his house then sticks her head in the one little opening and howls him a tune.... its a wonder the cat is not deaf by now! I am sure in time your two will work out their differences and you will discover them sleeping side by side , but only when you are not looking! |

Lightning and my cat, Mr. Kitty, get along great. But every now and then Lightning will drive the cat nuts. So I have a dog gate with a little cat hatch so the cat can get away when he wants to. On another door I have another regular baby gate with no hatch; I mounted it high enough that the cat can scoot under it. But 9 times out of 10, it's Lightning who has to escape out the dog door because Mr. Kitty is terrorizing him! I think if your cat had claws everything would have worked itself out by now. Luckily, Lightning has never pushed Mr. Kitty to the point that he's had to use his claws. Good luck!

i get swatted all the time. hissed at even more. Ozzie has claws, but she doesn't use them unless she's really, REALLY mad. I've gotten two bloody noses before.
She leaves Charlie alone... what's up with THAT? of course, he also leaves HER alone, so... (goodie two shoes) |
