Default hello, update and apologies!

hi guys,
sorry for not posting as things have been a wee bit hectic!

hope everyones ok, we're good few issues my end ( not literally) but appear to have hit 38 and developed a dodgyi back lol!

horace is doing really well, he gave up trying to impress and be good and his true bassetness has emerged, were keeping consistent and hes fine during the night, is up to two hours a day being left with no mess, destruction or trauma, stomachs still a bit hit and miss but am phasing him in on skinners field dry mix t the moment, doesnt help he wont sit still afte a meal and chases round with ' henry' his hessian/ hemp rope pig who seems despite everything to have avoided ' death by basset mouth' and has become his regulat sqeauky friend!

hes been off then lead twice, been working on clicker recall, ( started 30 mins a day just ' come here'( hes got sit and lay down and wait ( sort of) down toba tee), fetches sticks and rund about like a lunatic. there was no one else in the park yesterday so after ten minutes of ' fetch, come here, sit' i uncipped his lead and threw a stick, he ran after it, bought it back and got his treat....today i met up with a lady in the park with two small terriers whon he jumped ariund trying to pay with, hebdid come back ( after a bit of shouting and crouching down) and we went home, though he was ike a little kid though straining to get back to he park!!

curently alseep on his bean bag with ian cuddled up to him with his gums flapping snoring!

early days i know, but feel we're getting somewhere, his separation behaviour is stil quite dramatic, whining barking and howling though called his bluff today and popped back after 20 mins and found hed eaten out his kong and was waiting curled up by the back door !! though he does and probably will still try it on!! one thing which we are both pleased about is he is not snappy, nasty towards other dogs and people and so far is starting to respond to firm, consistent guidance, oh and if that fails....... a jar full of coins rattled loudly with a firm ' no' seems to get attention!

hope you guys and your Little ones are ok!

Sounds like you are such good doggie parents, and he sounds like a lovely handful. I wish we had more bassets in our area, I know Cannoli would have so much fun playing with them.

Default phew

have to admit, im exhausted, dont get me wrong i love him to bits, never thought wed have another basset after brandy passed away, but i have to admit despite the whining, nibbling, attention seeking ( we knew what we were taking on! ) hes a bloomin diamond! will get some pics uploaded from the pc tommorow, his favourite walk is beachy head ( for those of you in the usa its the uks top suicide spot lol, sounds grim but is part os the ' seven sisters' country park) we park up and do the 5k walk along the fields overlooking the sea with lots of rabbit holes!! .....i dont dent hes hard work and will be for a while.....just wish people would think before buying a basset that they do need firm tlc, guidance and boundaries......they maybe cute but my life they are buggers if you let them.....but at the end of the day..............theyre compete drama queens, gentle, soft and loevable xxxx

Chris, think you're right about them being drama queens. If my wee westie takes a toy from him, he throws himself flat on the floor and howls and whines so loudly that you'd think she had just ripped his ear off! Got to agree that they are so gentle, soft and lovable, but they are also the craftiest little creatures I have ever encountered.

So glad to hear Horace is progressing (I was wondering where ya'all were!). Sounds like you are making all the right moves in your parenting.

I have to disagree however... Drama Queens??? Isn't there a term for something Above that

Chris sounds like you two are just doing fine wwith Horace.....also seems like he is showing you the ropes and has you wrapped around his wee paws (like he should)!!!

What I want to know is you said he was sleeping curled upon his bean bag with Ian snoring and gums a flapping ..... who is snoring and a flapping Ian?????

You guys seem to be having a hoot with Horace and Horace seems to be having fun with you!
