Well that was scary – I went downstairs a while ago to put a few things away before hitting the hay and as I walk down I hear a hissing noise and am overcome by the smell of gas. Hubby didn’t realize when he used the stove last – the burner was left on and only gas was coming out.
I turned off the furnace right away so it wouldn’t kick on and opened the windows and doors – but the smell was still on the strong side so I had to have the fire department here to test the air. And I’ll have you know that Mable and Lucy sleep through everything up in the bedroom. Didn’t make a sound when the FD was here – gotta love the watch dogs we have. Which is exactly why I always say – you still need the backup alarm system with a hound dog. Thank you God for having me go downstairs tonight – or who knows… Jen~

Thank goodness everything is ok! Gas scares me for that very reason...we have gas heat, but that's all.
Back when Hurricane Irene passed through here, Winston slept through all the tornado activity we had around us. On his back, snoozing away on the sofa. He's pretty fearless and unaffected...until the neighbor pulls the trash bin around to the front of the house on trash night. Then mad barking ensues. Bassets will not guard your house. Simple as that.

Bella will guard the house from the safety of her windowsill, should anybody knock at the door, she's nowhere to be seen, until they come in and she welcomes them with a glimpse of her tummy. ![]() Our gas hob has been known to be knocked before now, but luckily it's always been caught pretty quickly, I love the benefits of gas but hate the danger factor if anything should ever go wrong. |

This sounds like Moses. Here in the south, springtime is tornado season (though this year, it's started in January- not cool). The storms always make me anxious, especially when the warnings are after bedtime. I've been assured many times that if a tornado was imminent the dog would "know" and let me know..uh, not my Basset! He stays conked out, snoring like a freight train, doesn't even wake up for the tornado sirens (which go off so frequently as to be almost useless). Guess I should be comforted, ha!

Yikes! Glad you woke up early enough to figure it out. Gas stoves frighten me for that exact reason.
