Question Decision of laser treatment for eyes

My Bassett Molly is 8 years old and last week she had an episode of conjunctivitis in both eyes causing Her trouble seeing! The next morning she could see fine but i took her to the vet and they diagnosed her with anterior uveitis! One week of treatment and now she is blind can see a little but not much! I went to the optimologist and she says its glaucoma and the damage is permanent however she wants to try the laser treatment but they say it won't give her back her site so idk? Anyone else have any knowledge of this treatment?

Would the treatment prevent what little sight she has left from deteriorating?

Wait, I just re-read that... did the pinkeye treatment make her blind? Is the vet who treated that the same vet as the optimologist? If so, or if they are in the same practice, I would go to another practice for another opinion.

I don't really know about laser treatment for dogs, but in general (for people) it seems to be very successful. If it were me, and it would prevent her from losing what vision she had left (and if I could afford it) then I would do the laser surgery.

On the other hand, dogs can adjust very well to their environment if blind. You just can't be rearranging the furniture.

I'm not familiat with the laser treatment, what is it supposed ot accomplish?

I'm fortunate not to have had to deal with glaucoma, but it's my understanding that in nearly all cases the eyes need to be removed eventually. Since everyone I know who's had it done remarked that they didn't realize how much pain their dogs were in until they saw how much happier they were following the removal, I'd generally recommend doing it sooner rather than later.

My Ginger had uveitis eventually resulting in the rupture of both eyes, despite treatment. By the time the vet finally recommended removal she had other health issues that prevented surgery. I honestly wish we had taken them out near the start, it would have been less pain and trouble for her (and cheaper for me).

And yes, she adapted amazingly well to being blind.

the treatment is to relieve eye pressure so it doe not cause pain for the dog my understanding is lazer treatment is not very effective in basset. the removal of the eye is better choice. but if you can not live with that at least the lazer treatment might help with the pain caused by glaucoma.

Thanks for all the help I am not convinced that this is from glacouma. I just can't believe that she could see fine a week ago and now she can't at all. The optimaligist says there is some damage to the nerve in both eyes but it's just weird. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort except that she just can't see.

Have you decided what you’re doing? Are you going to take her to another doctor for a second option? I couldn’t tell from your response.

glaucoma is bassets is an emercency situation they will like loose the eyesight in nomore than a day if not treated and 6 months to a couple years if caught soon enough,

dogs tend to be very stoic and now shoe a lot of outward signs of pian but glaucoma is a very painful condition that only gets worse over time.
