Default Eat Slow Dog Bowls

Does anyone have any experience with dog bowls that encourage a dog to eat slower? Like the ones with the nobs and stuff that stick out of the bowl?

Penny, much like every other basset I have ever met, loves food. She loves it so much she's taken to inhaling her food in less than a minute. We feed her twice a day. Her tummy had been bothering her because we switched her food and I'm thinking we may have made the move too fast. She had mushy poop and threw up twice. So we started mixing rice with her food and feeding her twice a day to space it out. She's been doing better in the past couple weeks now. Her poop is normal and she hadn't thrown up. We decided to just keep mixing rice with her food for a couple more weeks. Its a cheap topper that she loves anyways.

But lately she's been eating so fast its giving her stomach problems. Last night she ate so quickly she didn't even chew her food. We gave her a treat for desert afterwards, which she also didn't chew. She then threw up on my bed; most of it was whole food chunks. Its got me a bit worried. She just got used to the food and now she's making herself sick again. I don't think she's sick of anything because she's acting normal and wanting to keep eating, even right after she does vomit. She doesn't have any abdominal pain or anything either and she isn't losing weight. I'm still uber concerned though.

I've come to find that 90% of what Penny does is make Momma worry.

So. Any experience with those bowls? I'm thinking I might order one. I found one on Amazon for $10, so when my next paycheck comes in I wanna order one. I don't wanna waste any money though, so some advice or recommendations would be great.

I didn't know they made such a thing, but now I'm going to look for one for my Daisy. I'm always worried she is going to give herself bloat from eating so fast. We have been changing Daisy's food also. The vet told me to mix old and new brands together for a week and then start mixing more of the new and less of the old brand together over another week then go completely to the new food. He said there less chance of messing her stomach up that way. I'm a new Basset mommy(inherited Daisy almost 2 months ago) and everything she does seems to worry me. My other 2 dogs are very small and I've never worried as much about them as I do Daisy. I think I worry so much about her because she is so short and so darn heavy. She has lost 5 lbs since we have had her, the vet wants her to lose about 5 more. If I find one of the bowls I'll let you know.

Libby is also a lover of food and I worried about the warp speed that she would eat her food. We bought this slow eat bowl and it does slow down her eating:
Amazon.com: Skid Stop Slow Feed Bowl - Medium (Color May Vary): Pet Supplies Amazon.com: Skid Stop Slow Feed Bowl - Medium (Color May Vary): Pet Supplies

She still eats pretty fast, but the slow eat bowl does make her work at it more.

The skid resistant bottom does not work well, so we have her water and food in a boot tray like this one:
Amazon Amazon

The boot tray helps keep water off of our hard wood floors and her bowl doesn't migrate across the room. It still does skid a bit, but I figure that helps her slow down her eating a bit more!

Dogs rarely cew kibble unless it is really really big. The best thing I have found for slowing dog a fast eater is adding something sticky to the dog food. ie pumpkin or peatut butter. The must be asuffcient about to coat each piece of kibble make sure to press the mixture against the bowl so it sticks to the bowl as well this can be combined with one of the nubed bowls as well.

The problem I have with the nubbed bowl however is the general are made from plastic.

I bought a slow feed bowl for Clifford at Petco. He wasn't too fond of it at first, but he got used to it & it has slowed him down. I also started feeding him in smaller amounts, several times a day.

I thought of buying one of the bowls but kinda solved the problem on my own. Try putting the food in muffin pans...it takes them quite awhile to go from one cup to another....also, if you're just feeding kibble, try spreading it out on a rug or towel...anything so that they can't get a whole mouthful at one time. I feed wet and dry...mix it up real good and then spread it against the side of the bowl...they can't gulp it down that way. Good luck....

I saw at Petco the other day a large metal ball to put in the middle of the dish to force them to eat around it. I am considering trying it for Lila as she eats her whole bowl in a matter of seconds.

When we first got Maggie we put a large rock in the middle of her bowl. It worked great. Now she eats slow even without the rock.

i ahve one because I used to puke everytime i ate
i guess i kinda outgrew it b/c i eat ut of a regular bowl now.
I still have to have that floatie silver ball in my water tho because I drink too much too fast and yak that up too. they distract me all the time when I'm tryin to drink so I'll slow down.
