Thanks he has always been lean he eats more than what other dogs his size eat. He definietely had a growth spurt lengthwise. He runs for hours when he is a big area I love watching him. He even got my mother in laws tubby beagle to run a bit.

Bassets are surprisingly fast dogs, despite their short legs. Very spry when they want to be... but also the ultimate couch potatoes, when they want to be... Pretty stubborn minded dogs.... they do what they want to... make cats look compliant!
When Jake and Abby are feeling playful, they are full tilt! When it is time to "rest" Well, they have the resting down like experts! |

Gandy has been doing a lot of Indy 500 circuits around our livingroom, dining and kitchen. They make a circle. We recently adopted a 17 year old boy whose mom died at Christmas, and I think the dog is playing off the new teenage energy in the house. He runs nuts all day, and collapses on the bed at night. Tonight he actually made daddy pick him up to get into bed. He was too tired to climb up his step.

Yup, I hear that all the time at the dog park! Libby can really sprint when she feels motivated. People always tell me "Oh I didn't know Bassets could run" or are just surprised at how fast she is.
I also feel like it's a stereotype that Bassets are not athletic. Libby loves loves loves her long walks! |
