Unhappy Fleas

Penny has fleas. My roommate's chi-mix has fleas. My second roommate's new kitten has a tapeworm because of fleas. My third roommate has flea bites up and down her legs.

ARGGG. I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY ARE COMING FROM AND I AM ANGRY.

I'm about to groom the h out of Penny and clean the h out of my carpet. I think I'm losing my mind!

If they are that rampant, you may need a professional to zap those things. Good Luck!

I sure hope not! I'm doing flea powder on the carpet in my room later and not letting Penny in any of my roommate's rooms. I don't have money to buy them carpet stuff too, so I'll show them what I got and see if I can get them to buy it themselves.

Honestly, it wasn't even that bad until we got back from Christmas break. Someone brought the critters with them when they came back to the apartment I'm guessing.

I hate those things. When I lived in Florida, it was a constant battle. I'm glad I live where it's too cold for fleas.

Oh NO – you poor thing – I don’t blame you for being angry – I’d be livid!!!!

If it was me – I’d be taking everyone to the vet for professional dipping and have them all spend the night – and have the whole house professionally bombed while they are out of the house. Thank you God it’s been years and years since I’ve had them in my house – so I don’t remember how long the fur babies have to stay out of the house when it’s been bombed – which is why I’d take them to the vet opposed to the groomer, because if its 24 hours I know someone would be there with them or at the very least checking on them. If it’s only a few hours – then the groomer would I’m almost sure cost less than the vet would.

Do you mind if I ask where do you get your flee/tick products? Have you checked the date on the boxes?

Best of luck to you…

Jen~

I'd love to get that done, but all three of us are poor college kids, so we've had to DIY it all with cleaner and medicine from the supermarket. My roommate with the cat took her to get her dewormed and treated Monday though.

As for Penny, I got her some drops from Target. The date says it expires in 2013, so it should still be good. Today I bought her a spray that kills fleas too. So I groomed her off real well and she hasn't been scratching and I haven't seen any of those ugly things on her. I also vacuumed my room hardcore. And I've done sheets too. I might do them again tomorrow. I didn't do the powder that I said I would though. In fact, I'm gonna return it and look for something else. It said I had to leave it for 24 hours, but then it said the pets can't get on the carpet for 48 or they might get sick. It might just be a warning, but I'm paranoid. Can't be having that. I'm gonna look for something else.

This is one thing I can't stand about Texas. Its January but its 75 degrees outside so bugs are everywhere right now going crazy like "OMG SHOULDN'T IT BE COLD? OH WELL. LETS GET THE DOGS."

The drops from the store are not effective. I've found that in the long run it is cheaper to just go to the vet and get the advantage drops and maybe capstar. Saves a ton of money and time instead of buying and applying sprays and shampoos.

With the carpet that is tough I would bomb the house and treat the dogs with something your vet recommends I have had great luck with comfortis it is a prescripton so the pets have to have seen the vet before. It kills the fleas immediately so no need for flea shampoo or dips which as soon as they have a bath idf one is in the grooming shop they will jump right back on. It also does not have to be used for 3 consecutive months like frontline does. It works for 30 days. There is something called premis spray it works well I cannot use it because I have reptiles that lick the ground. Also cut up a flea collar put it in you vacuum bag and vacuum every two days dump the bag each time. The vacuuming is extremely important and make sure everyone is being treated. I just ordered some DE food grade diamectuous earth I am going to give it a try since I do not like the chemicals in flea treatment.
