Today I took the 3 amigos for their hike. I use a leash to take them out to the truck and then back into the house otherwise they are off leash. Maggie learned loose leash walking in class but hardly ever is on one. Today I drove a little past where we normally park so that the end of the walk before we turn around would be new to them. I got them out of the truck and we started walking except Maggie. She wouldn't budge. I called and called her but no way was she going to move. I picked her up and carried her a short distance but she still wouldn't walk. We walked back to the truck and I put on her leash and she was raring to go. We walked about a 1/2 mile and she stopped. I took off her leash and we walked some more and then headed back to the truck. Was she just being a stubborn Basset or could there be another reason. She has no problem with her paws and seems very healthy. In fact saw the vet last week.

1. dogs are great discrimintar and poor generalizer. So by going someplace new it a new senerio and the old cues may not work 2. Toughy and a number of basset i know thrive on a routine and do not like change much. So while we think some thing different would be nice they general do not agree the same old same old is how they like it thany you very much. With every dog subsequent I tried to veary things so the dog would not settle in to a routine. Ie not fed a 4 m every night etc.
