Question new Bassett owner

I have 2 female 10 month old bassetts. I got them at 8 wks of age. They have had all there shots and have been spayed. I noticed that intermittantly their eyes are rolled back in their heads and the red under their eyes shows. They both sleep and the whites are showing. They appear healthy and playful. It does not seem to bother them. Is this a problem that needs medical attention.

I doubt it is anything to worry about. I get that with both of mine, more so with Abby since she is "wrinklier" and more "droopy" than Jake.

What slays me is the "chasing bunnies" in their sleep. (I love that!).

Oh, and post pictures of your girls! We LOVE baby pictures... who am I kidding, we LOVE all pictures!

Welcome to the forum Judy, What are your girls names?

the red under their eyes shows
it is supose to show, the red is the third eyelid also referred to as nictating membrane and Haw. Basset breed standard calls for a prominent haw.

Tough never closed his eye when he slep only the third eyelid for him was ver red so he looked a little like a devil dog or cujo when he slept. If this is the only time that it happens nothing to worry about. If it occurs when they are awake it could be allergies, dry eye or even glaucoma and should be checked out bu a professional.

Welcome Judy..you must really be hopping with two of them. I wondered the same thing about Barney's eyes in the beginning...kinda of scary looking. Just part of the breed. Where are the pictures??????

Yep - same thing over here with all my hounds. But I have to admit the first time I saw it - I was also taken back. Ahhh, I bet she’s dreaming of what treat she’ll get when she wakes up.

Welcome to the hound family and to Cyberhound – oh, and we like lots and lots of photos here – we can’t get enough.

Welcome!

Monty's face is so wrinkly that when we see the eyeballs we know we're in for it! It's a sign of impending madness.....

He likes to snore, wiggle and fart in his sleep - it's adorable to watch just not to sniff

Photos please
