I've noticed that last couple of times that Barney is stressed, an odor seems to come from him. At first I had no idea but then was wondering if it was his anal glands. He doesn't scoot....it just comes..it just happened again when I turned on the washing machine (he's better, but still afraid), and he was just sitting next to me. Can't say it smelled fishy....more like some chemical that I can't identify. Can he empty these out without any physical activity on his part?

I'm not mikey but Barney went to the groomers today he was so scared when he first heard the force dryer he emptied them just standing there. Raise the tail high feel on either side of his anus. If you feel to swollen lumps you can squeeze gently and he will release the. You won't miss it when he does a very smelly brown liquid comes out. I have always had to do my dogs anal glands and now apparently Barney is going to be added to the list.

when Worm was a puppy, 2 retrievers attacked him & so he did that, expressed his anal glands and maybe even pooed?... yeah, i think fear can do it. he was very stinky afterwards.
