just thought id post something positive, since joinging hav read through loads of information on here from likeminded people, great to see .
I'm off work at the moment ( nhs) with a back injury, its in the recovery stage so all good so it was an odd choice taking on a new dog at this time! ians doing all the heavy duty stuff and hes good on the lead most of the time, and we bought a rok strap lead, which really does reduce the impact of pulling and choking when he decides that ' walk on' actually means ' run like a lunatic'! had a good walk this morning, ian went to work and i made a point of randomly picking up door keys, mputting on and off coats and opening and shutting doors, which seems to be helping him get over the anitcipation of us leaving. he only paced today when ian left and didnt bark,mi let him form45 mins today, no fuss chucked him a kong and walked out, the was the usual patter of paws at the door and 5 mins of wailing like a banshee, returned to find the house intact, no mess and him by the back door again, ignored him till he had clamed down onny return and then had a quiet lat in the head and then had some playtime and when he got a bit over boisterous managed to get thhing back on a level by saying ' enough now' and walking off. i know its eaky days but i have to admit from his history ( he ate through a door frame and wouldnt even let previous owner go to the bathroom with the door closed) i was expecting carnage......... just got to keep it going..... Hes a gem really, just male, young and a bit of a prat!! lol he had a wormer today at dinnertime so has been a bit unsure of whats gong on with his tummy but its all good, going to walk to meet ian in a bit and then home for dinner...... sorry fir waffling but am kinda proud of today....its hard work but worth the input! for anyone out there traumatised by hound behaviour!.....am sure half the battle is consistent, kind but firm and ket them know where they stand.... saying that hes just coe in with a pair of underpants over his head.......i give up lol |

Seems to me that he is adjusting to life in his new home just fine -- he is turning out to be a normal basset. Naughty just like the rest. I agree be gratefull the undies are just on his head -- Paisley eats them!!!! She also drags random things into the bedroom -- last night it was a dirty pair of mittens that she got out of the laundry basket in the basement -- covered in some kinda wood mold. I had helped my hubby stack a cord of firewood which had arrived with some yucky moldy looking gunk on it -- guess it was like a truffle for her -- soggy mittens this morning and a dog with the runs (outside thank goodness)..... hmm have to phone the wood company to see what this gunk is! All is well now -- she just gobbled her breakfast a few hours late!

A nice big G&T when the day is over is the best thing ever, ice and lemon mmmmm
Very rarely do i get to enjoy it in peace and quiet though. I can't drink whisky macks, or southern comfort, or vodka, too many bad experiences in my younger days. ![]() Nuttypigs followed me on the forums, I'm involved in Guinea Pig rescue and rehome, hence the pigs part, and yeah I can be a bit nutty sometimes, especially when it comes to Basset hounds. |
