So I've noticed some on here are die hard basset people, some have a few different breeds, and some just kind of happened on a basset, etc...So I'm just curious - how many are basset only people? Do you have any other breeds that you'd like to have as part of your family someday - like a wish list? I'm just curious what other people like. I have a few ideas myself for the day that we get MaeMae a friend - nobody call the mental health hotline on me - it will definitely be awhile and when I'm no longer doing full-time home daycare!
![]() So if I didn't get a second basset, and I don't know, that just might be too tempting to pass up, here's my list of maybes. 1. Whippet 2. St. Bernard 3. Retired Greyhound 4. French Bulldog (talk about coming out of left field) 5. Good ol' fashioned mutt |

Iv always had bassets but have also had a beagle and a whippet. Whippets are energy efficient and seem to do well with kids, beagles are ok but bassets are the best [in my opinion] i am fairly sure i will only ever have bassets

I'm a dog lover in general (sorry feline friends!) I have a Lab, a Boxer and a Basset. They are so much fun to see together and after awhile they start copying each other. My Basset is starting to "box" when he plays now. It's sooooo funny to watch!

I am a total basset person, and will always have bassets. Would love to add an English Mastiff to the pack one day though. Hubby and I both love them, but I'm just not sure how I'd handle a dog that's close to twice the size of me.

I've had other breeds in the past (lab mix, border collie mix, heinz 57, afghan hound, gordon setter, collie) but I've pretty much settled on Bassets only now - they seem to suit me best. Although I would be interested in a Basset Bleu de Gascogne if I had the time, energy, space and money to get into a second breed.

Bowser has always boxed, if it's what i think it is. He paws, and paws, and then flops both paws in the face of his foe.
Daisy just runs and SCREAMS when she plays. Not barking, not howling...just AHHHHHH screaming *lol* Most dogs won't play with her because she's so loud. Bowser just bites her head...her whole head *LOL* I used to be a beagle person...but now...basset all the way. I do like weenie dogs, and someday i would love to have a great dane or an english mastiff!!! I will never be without a basset now, though.

Always had Border Collies before, so a Basset/ Beagle mix was and still is a bit of a culture shock. Though I am currently looking for another dog it will probably be a Border Collie or a Working cocker spaniel, or another Bagel hound if I can find the right one.

Growing up, it was mutts. On my own, Bassets only. My brother was a Doberman person & his Dobermans were always good with my Bassets. We were neighbors for a long time & we had a gate between the yards so the dogs could go back & forth. At one time we had my 2 Bassets & my brother's Dobie. Sadie loved the Dobie, but she was queen of the pack & the Dobie let her be. It was funny to see a Basset boss a Doberman.
Dobies are a little big for me, but I think they are great dogs.

I have a basset and a beagle. it's funny, in some ways they are identical and in others, completely opposite. I love the goldens, but the one that I had was so good that I missed the challenge. Think I'll stay with the bassets and beagles....they both keep me on my toes.
