...maybe like how some children like to suck there hair...? go through a phase of that...?

Worm did a little bit when the edges of his ear were split. but some bassets just do it for fun. u should look on youtube, i saw a basset video of that before : )

henry is a world renowned ear sucker. Some folks think its the basset version of children sucking their thumb for reassurance, some think its just for fun. Hen does it when he wants attention or when he is watching tv. He swings his head from side to side to catch them! If he is tired he holds them in his mouth, if he is just being onery he chomps on them and gets them really really slimey and nasty. I wouldnt worry about it if i where you, i should imagine he learnt that as a baby if he did it his old owners would make a fuss of him in order to get it to stop. Either that or he just enjoys the slimey grossness of sucked lugs!
if you look at the henry album there are pictures of him doing it!

Buck is an occasional ear holder. He doesn't really suck on them or chew on them but he will carry an ear around in his mouth on occasion. I've never really worried about it. I mean, imagine if you had your ears in your face all the time... Wouldn't it be tempting to grab them all the time? Hahaha
