Default Any ideas what this is?

When I got Barney at 11 weeks he had this spot on him I brought him to the vets and they did a scrape and nothing concerning was found. It is completely covered with fur so I had not noticed it in awhile. It has grown larger I do not know if this is because he has grown and it is just stretching. The pic is not great but there is a faint broken line that is darker. It appears that fur is breaking off around it but I do not know if it is new fur growing or breaking. around this area Barney has scratched at it and caused some scabbing in the same general idea. I was hoping someone would clue me in so when I took him to the vet I would not be completely clueless what it is or what I can do to fix it.

Could it be ringworm? The other thing that rings a bell is alot of bassets where finding they had bald spots on their coats and switched from food with grain to grain free which helped. I will go look but i think if you go to the search tab and type in bald spot or something it will bring up the list of threads

Yes go to the search drop down, i typed bald spot and there are a handful of interesting threads on hot spots, bald spots etc

My first thought would be maybe something fungal, I work with a lot of rescue guinea pigs and they get the same type of marks and hair loss through fungal skin.

However if it was it would surely of shown up in the vet scan and would be a hell of a lot worse than it is.

Does it irritate him?

When Ninja had a bald spot that looked like that (on her side), it turned out to be localized demodectic mange.

No the spot is always skin colored. However he has recently taking to really itching the skin around it and he has what looks to me like seborrhea kind of crusty. He does have an identical mark that he has always had on his chhek. This spot has never bothered him and he never itches in that area.

I just read about it and it talks about how normally puupies get these mites from their mom's but it usually never affects them and they live with it just fine. It did say puppies with a weak immune system can have issues with then and it can cause these spots. Barney was very sick with giardia when he was a puppy I am sure he came to me with this. I wonder if becasue he was sick he had an issue with the mites. Those spots barney has do look just like the localized form. It does say usually it will resolve itself was this true in your case? hese spot used to be able to be seen clearly when he was a puppy but now his fur is so thick you cannot even see them.

Our vet had said that it could possibly resolve on its own, but for her case suggested we give her a few doses of Advantage Multi 55, which worked for her. Like Barney, she also had giardia (although she didn't come with it...she picked it up here, probably from eating bunny poop). As well she had a UTI previously, and had just been through her spay before the demodectic mange showed up, so I think her immune system was pretty weak back then.

Interesting, 'Nolli has recently developed a bald spot on her rump that we are puzzling over. Doesn't look irritated or seem to bother her at all, just a spot of missing hair!

I have some calendula/hypericum solution I am going to put on the are around it that he has been scratching there are quite a few scabs that I have never noticed before the last few days. That solution really helped daisy heal from a huge hot spot.I have never given barney a bath perhaps this would help? I am working my way up to leaving him at a groomers.

He has several areas like this where he is bleeding there seemed to be some brown stuff kind of like what comes out of their ears when they are dirty. These are right at the base of hit tail and a bit farther up where his coat is really thick. They have to be relatively new I am always rubbing him but these are very deep in the fur.Kind of blurry barney is not real cooperative about my probing.
He does not have hairless areas like it look I was just spreading the fur.
