Default Birthday Cake

Napoleon's Birthday is next week and we were going to make him a birthday cupcake. I was just wondering what flavors of cake and what toppings would be best for dogs to eat, or what other alternatives there are.

NO CHOCOLATE!!!

I would think that a cupcake made from banana bread mix, or zucchini bread, carrot, pumpkin, or if you could devise a "bacon" cupcake! If you do, Jake and Abby insist upon THAT recipe!

I’m with JNFT – No Chocolate – I just don’t take the chance. Years ago both Flash & Lucy ate a whole BIG box of chocolate candy and they both ended up quickly to the vet because of the reaction they had with it – blocking their urinary tract. So for me it’s a personal choice and a chance I’m not willing to take.

In our house all my fur babies get homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting – and they love it to death. It even gets the approval from their doctors so I feel good making it for them.

again all toxcity is does related however what consitutes a toxic odes of raisins/grapes is not known and there may be other factor involved because there is a huge varition in what cause a problem if any as some dog appear to have not problem whatsoever. At least with chocolate when can make a informed an relative risk assesment that can not be done with raisin especial and grapes as well.

Quote:
Strangely many dogs can ingest large amounts of grapes with impunity so it is not sure that the observed cases of renal failure following ingestion are due to grapes only. Experimentally, the condition has not been reproduced [3] .
there is also a theory perhaps conspirisy theory there is no such thing a s grape toxicity in dogs
killer grapes or a ASPCA Posion control center Urban legend

when one invesitgate further there is little suport for actual grape toxicity but it is possible. I fed my dogs grape before the report came out and continue to with no adverse affect though they never get many.

Basset hounds are not known for their finicky eating habits. Anything but chocolate is fine for them. I think mine would eat rocks if they thought it was people food.

This one for me was a definite laugh out loud – Mabel went through a long phase where we couldn’t keep rocks out of her mouth. Hubby spent a full day walking the full back yard removing everyone he could find – but let Mabel out for five minute and she’s be sure to find ones he missed – even if it required a little digging to do so.

Here is a photo of one of her last meals she tried to have before I got it away from her. And the other photo I’m adding just because it’s been so long since I’ve shared one of her – it’s not the best I have but I do think it’s one of the latest taken of her. When I update her thread – I’ll add better there.
