Default How does your basset play?

I was laughing in adoration last night at Bowser. As y'all know, i'm the crazy snake lady. Well, one of my snakes shed. I was taking it out, and i put it down and continued cleaning. Bowser sometimes waddles over to see what i'm doing, or to get jealous that i'm not doing it with him, and he lies down and leans against me.
This time, though, he came and sniffed the shed. I was watching him out of the corner of my eye in case he got the wild idea to grab it...but instead...he flipped his head like a rearing horse and then stomped, one paw, than the other, and then bowed in "let's play" doggy fashion, and growled at it *LOL*

He went crazy! He kept flopping his front feet on the ground, pawing one paw, than the other, then BOTH, over and over. He only really does this once or so when he first gets excited about something, but this shed, just lying there, made him keep doing it...until he threw in a few "tail chases"...spinning and biting his own tail, and then turning around to flop and paw at the shed again.

It was just so silly. I hadn't really seen him get all crazy like that before, though I have seen him do that seperately. For new years he ran in a circle, chased his tail, then flopped on the ground...then got up and started "making a bed" with nothing there...just the carpet. He did that for about ten minutes until he exhausted himself *LOL* I actually got a video of him doing it with the "dick clark new years rockin eve" in the background and that song "everyday i'm shufflin" playing, as he dug to the beat of the music. I've been meaning to post that one lol

Anyway, maybe it's just the "snake hound" in him. He likes to go lie in front of the biggest snake cage (which you may have seen photos isnt that far off the floor, and he goes and peeks in there often).
My goofy little thing cracks me up, either way.

Other than that, he will take a squeaky toy...which is NEVER chewed up...and squeak it back and forth as he runs around upstairs, and just plays on his own until he's tired (which is great lol).

No hard toys (i think i said that before) no rubber...those go in the "not a toy" pile. But we do have two big bins of soft toys that still work and haven't been destroyed. The only dog i know that still has working, good condition puppy toys!

Okay i think that covers all the playing...or at least only a little bit of the weird stuff without repeating myself too much.
What's a weird play or a weird playing habit yours does? Bow just cracks me up when he uses his paws. Daisy takes her paw and will grab or use her claws or toes to grib...Bowser just flips his paw, limp-wristed, and THUMPS it on the ground *lol*

He likes to take his small toys and throw them up in the air, then pounce on them like a cat. Over and over and over.

He does the same thing with sticks when he's outside, only he also growls at them.

Eclair does the moonwalk, or bull dance to get Ethel going and it works every time. Once they get going its like having 2 rams, mouthing necks, flipping each other over like in Karate class. I can watch my Bassets play for hours, and play for hours they do

I forgot to say that when bowser and daisy play, it's like godzilla and mothera. or like, that scene in the lion king where simba and scar are wrestling and the fire is in the background, you know? LOL Paws wrapped around, mouths agape...and SCREAMING. Raaw raww RAWW raw! Moan groan, bark, whine, RAW AAW!!!

Barey loves it when my 4 foot tegu makes an appearance. He runs circles in front of him. He egts down at his level and paws at him but Tonka barely notices. Barney also loves to stick hiw nose in tonka's butt it is funny Tonka lifts himself up and lets him take a sniff. Sometimes I wonder if my tegu is part dog.

He is a black and white argentine tegu. I adopted him when he was about 18 months old.
Here he is in the backround that is Lola my chihuahua in the front.

Here he is with Sadie. I used to catch my dogs sunning with him in front of the screen door when they would see me they would act like they were not laying with him it was very funny. This pic is when I first got hime. He is close to 4 feet and 12 pounds now and still the biggest love.

Molly does the foot stomping thing to get Winston to play, sometimes you'll hear the rare bark from her. Sometimes she even does it to me. Winston responds almost immediately and a wrestling match ensues.

Winston still chases his tail. It's part of his before bed ritual, then he climbs on the couch, rearranges a blanket and makes his nest (he's doing that as I write this). Normal play for him, aside from chewing on Molly, consists of grabbing a toy that squeaks and running through the downstairs squeaking it. Sometimes he bonks Molly with it to show her what he has and see if she wants to play tug. Other times he flips it in the air and chases it. He also immensely enjoys tossing the empty kong around. I think he likes the random bounce it has.

Winston's style of play is very similar to Molly's when she was very small. I am happy he can engage himself or turns to Molly to play. Of course the most popular sport in our house is the Basset 500...run in tandem.

Missy, you need to post that video of Bowser. I gotta see that! Love him
