I get almost daily emails from Guidestar, a website where you can check out financials and other things for nonprofit organizations. Usually I don't read the emails, but today for some reason I did. They were announcing the winner of a $5,000 prize that would go to one of the nonprofits. Guidestar probably has thousands, if not tens of thousands, of nonprofits whose work ranges from local to global. So out of all those nonprofits, guess who won the $5,000? Golden Gate Basset Rescue! The second place prize went to an organization that feeds kids in Cambodia. These people obviously have their priorities straight! I don't have anything to do with Golden Gate, but I thought I'd spread the good news. If anyone on here works with Golden Gate, tell them congratulations!

That's great news for the hard-working people at GGBR. They're a great bunch of basset lovers, and I'm sure the $5,000 will help rescue and adopt out more bassets.
Callahan and I miss Ft. Funston a lot. It's part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and one of the last surviving natural sand dune areas of San Francisco. There's old WWI and WWII coastal batteries and the like, and, best of all for the pups, an off-leash beach! It's pretty amazing that nestled within such a densely packed, overcrowded, loud, dirty city there are beautiful natural preserves like Ft. Funston and Golden Gate Park.

![]() And Callahan, we just discovered Ft. Funston last year~ it is a lot of fun! is there something like that in NY? but... my person says she misses NY too! did they opposite of you and now we r here. Last year, we asked folks to help us write a letter to SF & GGNRA~ they were proposing to shrink the area for us, even though the dog area is only 1% of the whole GGNRA. SF was pretty mad about that. i haven't heard the update yet. i bet they are still debating... --Worm PS. here's the reply i got back when I asked if GGBR had won the prize.... yay!: YES we did win a prize from Guidestar!! We won the $5000 prize for getting the most donations from Thanksgiving thru New Years Eve using the Guidestar link (that was the link mentioned in the end of year fundraising letter)!! We were waiting for Guidestar to announce it before we did and I guess they made the announcement today!! YAY for GGBR!! I was SO excited!! We could sure use that money with all the expensive hounds that came through last year (99 hounds in total!!) and more already waiting to come to us (5 already this week!)!!
