Well we were lucky in WV this year.......having a mild December. Had a couple inches of snow the other day, and now our road is white with salt, yuck! I always take Annie on a long afternoon walk around the neighborhood but with all the salt (and soon to be black cinders as well) I really hesitate. Now in the afternoon when we usually go for our walk she is pacing all around the house, climbing on me, climbing at the windows, etc. The roads are going to be a mess until April now, don't know what to do.....WE miss our walks! I considered hauling out my old treadmill but she really likes the getting out of the house part, and the fenced back yard is just not exciting enough for my social butterfly (sigh)
I wonder if the mall walkers would welcome us

Yeah, here in our city, the mall welcomes us! it's apparently the go-to place for dogs during bad weather (ummm... here it is only rain...). took Worm into Macy's, Gap, Brookstone, Victoria's Secret (haha, he said wha????), Williams-Sonoma for Christmas shopping...
another good place is a covered parking lot that's not too busy. we have 3 where we live here. Worm loves to pee/pee on concrete, so it's the place for him. his substrate preference. but other dog people talked about that too-- bringing to a covered parking structure. of course, one that is well-populated & not too sketchy.

I feel your pain it was in the teens the last two days here even all bundled up the bitter cold was to much for me to handle walking very far. Barney is uded to a long walk so he has been bouncing off the walls a bit.

Afternoon walks continue for us here! We live in NE Ohio and we take a walk no matter the weather. I bundle up and once we get walking I am warm. Libby seems to love being out in the cold and snow. I always make sure to towel Libby off when we get home to dry her off. You can also use a damp wash cloth to wipe off paws if you are concerned about salt.
Another idea for you is to go to a park. I often take Libby to a local park where we walk. There is also a big fenced in baseball diamond at this park. During the winter nobody uses it so I let her run loose in there. I will often run around with her which is fun! Makes you feel like a kid again! Do you have a dog park near you? I try to take Libby to the dog park a couple of times a week. She seems to enjoy interacting with the other dogs. Final suggestion is finding a doggy daycare place. One day a week at a good doggy day care will provide a lot of stimulation for your pup! |
