Default Shedding....

OK, this may seem like one of those stupid questions, but here it goes....

Every outfit I own is covered in dog hair, my furniture... you name it!

I brush Jake and Abby almost daily, I vacuum or sweep (definitely) daily.

However, I gather enough hair between brushing and sweeping to build several new dogs. (Is there an organization that needs hair for balding dogs for implants or sweaters?)

Does ANYONE have any help, ideas, cure-alls for the shedding? I had a shepherd and she only shed bad at the change of seasons, and then it was just clumps, not individual hairs.

Wish I had a solution for ya. I swear sometimes when Maggie does an all-over-shake a little plume of white and black hair appears, kinda like pigpen from Charlie Brown!
In an effort to further abuse my dog I'm learning to love dark gray clothes so the hair doesn't show as much.

There are supplements available that say they will reduce shedding. I have yet to try any though so I can't speak to their efficiency.

Annie got a Furminator for Christmas so the poor little dear has to endure that torture now. I've found the best way to round her up for a good brush down is to start brushing the other dog, Annie gets VERY jealous and will then happily stand still for her turn

I use the furminator on Moses, also once I switched him to Blue Buffalo that reduced his shedding dramatically. However, I could still probably single-handedly fund the lint roller business!

I like the rubber hound mit/gloves myself for brushing........maybe if I did it more often I wouldn't have so many hair tumbleweeds I just use a tape/lint roller when walking out the door. Bassets shed, no getting around it..........unless you want a schnauzer or poodle.....

The furminator is the way to go, it removes hair like nothing else I've come across. That said when I wear black it still resembles a Casper the ghost outfit. Nothing really stops the hair!

I always laugh af any breed site that list basset as low shedder. it is the nature of the breed a think the bulk of there matabolism coes into keritin production ie hair and nails. there is no cure all.

however in addition to what has alread been said a lot of kibble diet are low in fat sumplemeting with fish oil and vegitable oil omega 3 and 6 fatty acid can have a signifcant effect on coat quality and reduce shedding somewhat but the cureall marked as such are just so much snake oil

Wait until the spring Barney sheds quite a bit but I knew that bassets are notorious for it. I can't tell you how many times I am out and I take a look in the mirror and I am covered in dog hair. I love those sticy rolls I do a once over on myself before leaing the house. I was a groomer for a long time I have yet to find a prodcut that really works. I wish I had one of the force dryer I used to use to blow out the coat once a week. Brushing will help reduce it some but it has to be done so often I rarely remember to do it.
