For a while now, I've been wanting to switch Penny off of Purina to a better dog food brand. On a whim, I went to the Tractor Supply Company store and found a brand of food that they exclusively sell.
Its called 4Health. No wheat, no corn, no soy, no artificial coloring, no artificial flavoring, no by-product. Penny loves it and it hasn't upset her tummy once. We got her the chicken and rice formula: Quote:
But the best part? It doesn't break the bank. I got a 5lbs bag to try it out for $6. The 35lbs bag is $30. So I'm basically gonna take this time to go ahead and recommend this food. So far, its been worth it, especially for a broke college student such as myself. Also, let's talk about the best finds we've found our bassets. Because we all love to go the extra mile for them and it can be really amazing when that extra mile isn't causing moths to fly out of our wallets. |

Hey that's great! I have been wanting to switch my gal's food to something better as well. Tractor Supply does rock, they are much cheaper on many supplies......I needed a crate earlier in the year and Petco's were over $100.......TSC had a floor model I got for like $50 or something, was the last one and dusty so the manager gave me a deal

Boomer gets 4health food from Tractor Supply, too. He has done quite well on it, and like you said, it won't break the bank.
Most of the time the cashier or other employees aren't allowed to negotiate, so always ask to speak to the manager for a deal if there is something you want, but it's old/scratched/ etc. Most of the time they will make you a good deal. Just be polite about it, and don't give them an attitude. NOTE: I don't work for TSC, but I do work for a competitor, so have first-hand experience.

Very good to know. I've been trying to find a good senior dog food for Lightning, but the only ones I trust are very expensive and I just quit my job. I looked up 4Health, and they don't have a senior dog food. But then I read an old thread on here about how there's no reason to feed food for "seniors", just find a good regular food and supplement it with old dog vitamins. I love TSC, so I think I'll swing by there and get a bag of this food. Thanks for the recommendation!

I love TSC as well! We buy Taste of the Wild there. It's a grain free food, and it's very affordable as well. It's $45 for a 30 lb bag. My hounds do best on grain free kibble, as it keeps their ears from getting icky.

Yes, if it's something they really want to move, most managers will cut you a good deal, as they want to make room for new merchandise.
Back to dog food: we were not that crazy about Science Diet for Boomer (which is what his breeder started the puppies on), and switched to the puppy 4health. He had less poops and they were firmer, and he likes it. We also buy the canned food and I mix a little into his morning kibble. But, as always: if your dog likes a certain food and seems to be doing well on it, don't get too hung up on the price and brand!

we get our glucosamine supplements there. they are decently priced and lilly loves them. as far as food, we feed lilly ROTATIONS it's not sold in any stores and have delivered to our house. it is also a grain free food and has 3 flavors new zealand lamb w/potatoes, wild salmon w/peas and carrots, and chicken and brown rice.
They are designed so that we can switch her flavors from meal time to prevent boredom and have no upset stomach. your 4health definatly has some decent pricing. right now we are still in a position that we can get her the ROTATIONS and not break the bank. ROTATIONS is still better priced than most other large bag dog foods, w/out shipping. if i am ever in a position that i cannot afford that i will be looking into the 4health |

Hi LillysFolks! Annie also eats Rotations
We rotate between the salmon and lamb flavors since chicken seems to bother her skin, but she loves them and has been doing very well on it. For clarification purposes though, it is not considered a grain free food.
