When I got Barney, I looked around at alot of forums...found alot that were very judgmental, and some even down right cruel....and then I found you guys. You have a way of making a new person feel welcome and that any questions I have aren't completely stupid. I haven't yet figured out who sets the tone for this forum but whoever it is, is doing a wonderful job. After reading the posts, I can't help but become attached to all the furbabies. Each of their personalities are in this forum and in a small way, they're part of me too. The downside of this is that when something bad happens, which it has too many times, I hurt too. For all you guys who are struggling, may the next year be a better one. Just a thought....

I agree 100%. I am not one to really frequent forums, as people are often jerks online due to the anonymity that the internet allows. Not so here. This is a great group and very supportive. Whenever there is sadness, I say that I need to not come here anymore. I really felt that after what happened to Woody and Romeo. But I can't leave because you all are my second family.
Thanks for being so awesome, everyone.

I could never abandon you all, who else would understand when Henry has eaten phone number 9 and i cant find his thundershirt!!! [Plus we dont go to other forums, we dont need to, they wouldnt understand!]

I don't think it is any one person that sets the tone for this forum. We just all seem to understand that there is no such thing as a stupid question, and we all understand each other.
There are disagreements, of course, but I have never seen outright bashing. Once in a while someone will come on the board and get mad when they don't like answers to questions they ask, but you have to have an open mind when it comes to be a basset owner. Any animal, for that matter. There has been a lot of sadness this year, but there has been a lot of happiness, too. I admit, when I have see the ATB posts, my heart drops and I swear I won't come back. My heart breaks too easily. The coming year will probably bring more losses, it is inevitable, but I will mourn and shed tears right along with those families and pray that they find peace and comfort. And I will laugh when it's time to laugh, and welcome with open arms all new people.

I agree! I've asked my fair share of half baked questions this past year, never once have I been made to feel like a nincompoop! I have 2 Basset nincompoops so another is definately not needed! The losses, rescues, new puppies and the insane things they all do have made me laugh, cry and even help me find room in my heart for another poor soul.

Well said everyone!!! It took me a long time before I could even post... I was a lurker.. I was afraid I'd be judged. I soon found out I am not alone and not a crazy dog lady who thinks of her basset as another daughter.... I discovered the things my Paisley does are quite normal.. I have learned to take some things in stride and not to sweat the small stuff... I have learned from the wisdom of others that know much more than I ever will and have shared in the joys of some and the anguish of others.
Most of all I have learned I have become part of caring group that will help when needed with love and support. Thanks everyone. |

This forum has been around for a long time. People and hounds have come and gone over the years, but it has always been a wonderful place full of wonderful people who care about Basset Hounds. I personally started coming here after we got our first Basset "Bubba", now ATB. I learned so much, asked many questions, and had such wonderful support when we lost Bubba to cancer from people whom I never met personally, but truly cared and understood.
They have been with us, and given such great advice and support for Bogie and his many health issues from the attack by two pit bulls, his rock eating incidents and surgeries, and his snapped ACL and surgery. I hope this forum will always be there for all the Basset lovers who find us.

I was lucky enough to find this forum first and never had to deal with the other boards. It has been a hard year for our furbabbies and will be again but like so many others here have said we are a family. A Basset family. I have so much more in common with the people here than I do with most of my relatives. And here most wouldn't think I'm crazy for the way I take care of the 3 amigos. Most of the people on this forum will never meet but we also will never forget many of the good times and bad that happen on this site. I do have a dream of someday soon packing my wife and the kids into a trailer and visiting all our Basset family along the way.
