I have been reading these boards for a couple of months, but thought that we should formally introduce ourselves!
I adopted my basset Libby from the Ohio Basset Rescue (OBR) in July. We named her Liberty (Libby) because she came home over the 4th of July weekend and it seemed appropriate for a rescue dog who was getting a second chance at a great life! ![]() Libby is a 3 year old (as far as we know) tri and has a come a long long way since we brought her home. She was given up by her previous owners to a shelter and then was picked up by OBR so we know nothing about her past. She had no manners, was very scared of everything and had horrible separation anxiety when we brought her home. I am happy to say that through obedience training and lots of love we have put most of that behind us! Libby is a very sweet girl and a great companion. Now I am learning how to keep up with her ears, and battling our first round of brown armpits! It's fun to be "chatting" with other basset owners and their bassets. ![]() Here are some pictures of Ms. Libby. |

Esther, Molly wants me to tell you the story of Dexter. When she was in puppy class as a baby basset, she had a classmate named Dexter. He was a cocker spaniel and was scared of people and everything around him. His momma and daddy brought him in to learn socialization and manners and generally get him over his fears. Over the course of the class (8 weeks?), Dex started to initiate play with Molly and even came over to say hi to me. It took a while, but he was a different dog when we graduated.
With time and patience, your bro will learn to not be scared of the world. He's had a rough go of things and he's in a whole new world now with you and your family. While we know his life is safe and secure, CB is still figuring that out.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Ahrooooo!!
Esther, your bro Charlie will settle in with time. Going to those obedience classes helped me gain some confidence and showed my humans my true class clown personality. My humans also used a thunder shirt with me for the first few months when I was really anxious or during thunder storms. I don't even need that silly thing anymore! I wish my first humans had been better to me and socialized me when I was a puppy. I was one scared, hot mess, but life is looking up these days! Back to napping on the couch, Libby |
