We use Hexadine flush and Conzol both from the vets. We use the flush on a cotton square first, get it wet, stick it in the ear, wiggle it around and throw it away then follow with the Conzol drops which again we soak on a pad and just like with the flush. Both we use at room temp. We do this at least once if not twice a week as Hen swims alot. A bottle of flush has lasted the whole year and we still have about a third left. The drops we change every few months. Hope that helps

puppy visit to vet: they showed us what to use, how to do it, etc, etc.

My vet said that if I'm in a pinch to use half white vinegar and half water but she also said that this wasn't as good as the manufactured stuff because it's not self-drying.....you don't want all that wetness to stay in their ears. I started a thread this morning on ear cleaning....got alot of good advice so when you have time, read it....pretty much explains everything. My vet never gave me any drops to put in.....just the large bottle of wash, which was pretty inexpensive.

We just use the drops because Henry swims ALOT and most often in the type of water you would not want to swim in lol!herefore more prone to nasty infections

that can quickly be solved by substituting rubbing alcohol or witch hazel for the water, alcohol is antimicrobial like vinegar but can be irratating whitch hazel is non-iratating but not antimicrobial. On can add boric acid (eye wash) to vinegar (acetic acid) and ge a synergic antimicrobial effect.

I never use ear wash at room temp to unpleasant for the dog I warm it to body temp for dog 100-102 and never squirt it in ther ears but use a pad and soak it first. I like pad much better that balls for wiping the ears down.

How often depend entirely on the dog. how much hair is in the ears. how much wax it produces, size of the ear canal, et.c i generally find as the dog get older you need to do it more often once a week is the rule of thumb but I have had many that could go once a month in the dryier winter months. check the ear if the look cruddy they need to be cleaned if they look clean clean them any way if you get no crud then after a few times then you can look at extending the interval.

We are currently using Excel Ear Cleansing pads and we clean Libby's ears once a week. The pads are pre-moistened so easy to get ear cleaning done quickly!

When first adopted Libby we talked to our vet about ear cleaning and she told us to clean them regularly with a product that had a self drying agent in them. Hope this helps!
