I know this has nothing to do with bassets, but something tells me someone on this forum can help me. My cat--yes, cat--had a bladder stone, and I only recently he peed A LOT on a really nice area rug I have. Does anyone know how I can rid this rug of the smell? I remember someone saying if you use Nature's Miracle, you have to keep the carpet wet for a certain amount of time, but I can't remember the details. Thanks, and sorry to post about a cat!

if it is a removable rug the best thing is to have it professional cleaned. When urine dries li forms crystal and the crystal are not easily extracted of even broken down. but the rug clean Cn push cleaning solution from the tom and extract from the pobbom and vice versa they can clean way better than you can possibley do yourself This a pickup and or droboff service no an in home carpet extraction service.
as for the envymatic cleaner if you have a black light use it Urine flourcesse under UV and you will beable to see the spop and the extent on probably other areas you did not know about . Exymatic cleanter need to remain moist while the work tthe can not be allowed to dry out so you soak a larger area than the stain and over with a water proof material plastic plasic wrap , tin foil and check periodical and remoisten the area in needed. mos enzymatic cleaners recommend 48 hour to work. |

yup use enzyme cleaner and keep moist until the smell is gone. If you have already used bleach or chemical cleaner though, it won't work...it will kill the enzymes!

Hi -- knock on wood ... we have had cats all of our married life and not had this problem BUT ... I agree with Mikey. If you can send the carpet out to be cleaned....its not that costly and they really do a good job. Failing that if you go another route make sure to do both sides of the carpet and protect the floor underneath with an old towel and plastic --- you dont want the odor seeping into a hardwood floor.... Cat Pee has to be the worst! We have a weeping cypress tree at the end of our front walk -- when it is the right conditions -- humid and warm -- it smells just like cat pee and its not a very welcoming smell to greet visitors with. Luckily it is not too humid and warm here often! Good Luck!

When we did have a cat "Snitt" was only allowed to eat Hill's Science Diet dry cat food because of him being a boy , they develop crystals quite easily. The food kept him from ever having a UTI,he never went outside of his litter box, ever. I picked that up working for a Vet.

Thanks everybody; the rug is being picked up on Wednesday. It's a big rug, so it will be expensive, but it's got to be done. Ugh. Next time I hope I pick up sooner on the many signals Mr. Kitty gave me that he was having issues down there.
