Default boy SOMEbody was grumpy last night

all I wanted to do was PLAY with him. I mean how often do you GET a new brother? so I was running along side him, his ear in my mouth the whole time. He walked away trying to ignore me. So I jumped at him and woofed at him. Nothing. So I started nipping at his neck a little. He turned and barked and snapped at me. Sheesh. I yelped a little... but my feelings were hurt more than anything else...

c'mon dude I JUST wanted to PLAY. He's been nicer today.
dont tick me off, I'll pee in your bed, dog...

Poor Esther....trying soooo hard...Esther's mom...I'm sure you know about this but somewhere I read on here that it's important for you not to interfere in their working this out....probably from Mikey...unless it's a death do us part situation. They evidently have to complete the process on their own without us, or it will cause problems down the line. I followed this advice and it has worked out wonderfully for my situation.

Actually I have a bit of a question regarding this kinda thing, occasionally while on a walk a dog will take exception to hec and go for him, he try's to get away as quickly as possible and makes this strange honking seal type sound, I don't want him to be a bully or anything but he doesn't, I dunno tell them to stop if you get me. Is this something that will come with age or is the honking here to stay?

Give him time Esther. Molly and Winston had issues like this at first too (and Winston was a rowdy baby). Your bro will learn that you are playing and not trying to hurt him. Everything is so new for him right now.

I don't think he really knew what playing was. Poor thing. He was a puppy mill guy and they used him to make little bassets. Don't get me wrong, makin' em is fun too right? haha! but yeah, he spent all his life outside in a pen. sometimes when it was time to make em they'd cram him into a pen with four girls in season, apparently where they could all barely move. Luckily, though, he's only two years old and didn't have THAT much time of it under his belt. So I think he'll figure it out quickly how lucky he is now. they keep telling me to be more gentle, but I wanna PLAY PLAY PLAY!!! Come ON dog! Let's DO this~

Ester, Eclair and Ethel had a bit of the same, just working out the pecking order in a mild way. Within a week they became best best buddies. So much so that they now plot against the humans as to how much chaos they can cause together! Its been 3 weeks since the new addition here and you would think they were litter mates!
