Post Bella shivers!!

Hi

Does anybody else's Basset's feel the cold? Bella shivers and I have to make her go outside sometimes to go toilet. She goes to the door takes one look outside then will come back in and pee on the floor if I don't pull her outside with me.

She's loved summer, just laying in the sun on the windowsills, and has now discovered that when the fire's on in the living room it has the same effect, so she lays as close as she can to it.

I've tried not to mollycoddle her too much because I was hoping she'd get a thicker coat when her winter coat came in, but it's not looking good. She's refusing to go out on her night walks, she hides behind the chair until I go get her coat, then she'll come out and off we go.

When Hubby went to buy her, he said she was the last of the litter, and all her siblings came forward and she stayed at the back under the heat lamp. Hmmmm seems she's always going to like being warm.

She went to bed looking like ET last night, 3 blankets, a memory foam bed inside her dog bed and now the heating has been reset higher, but she did sleep till 6am this morning, instead of the usual 4am when she was waking up shivering. No Princess Bella's in the bedroom is the rule in our house.

I just noticed a few weeks ago Tommy shivering and thought he was sick. Turns out he was just cold. He doesn't mind going outside to do his business though. Gotta love Bassets and their quirks!

Need photo's of bedtime Henry pls , not sure if I can get PJ's for bassets in the UK. Could possibly make her some, though I do think the ET look is quite fetching.

Found these on a google search. UK based.

Going to put an order in for a new coat and some 2 legged PJ's. Until then it's ET, unless I find some kids jumpers, I might raid my daughter's wardrobe. Bella only weighs in a 15kos being a crossbreed.

Default Same Here

Kiara shivers as well when she goes out in the a.m and at night. Its is getting quite cold here where we live so during the day when the sun is not shining she "runs" out to do her business and right back to the door. She has not seen snow yet since she was born in Feb. I don't know what she will be like once its below zero out and there are inches of the white stuff I am sure I will need to buy her a coat or something. She tends to get very cold very quickly.

Not trying to put a damper on the PJs but it may be a good idea to have a shivering dog's thyroid checked.Probably it is just the cold but there can be medical reasons too. Just a thought.

Huh....Barney is just the opposite...does terrible in the summer but now is a completely different dog...energy to spare. I have dog doors and he spends most of his day running in and out with his pup sister who loves it too. It's in the 20's now but they race away back there all day. Both their coats seem pretty heavy though. Being so far north he must be acclimated to it.

I think thats the problem with us, we are south and it gets hot hot hot here which he likes and turned cold literally over night. Hen has a really soft coat and as soon as his jumper is on he stops shivering so we are sure he just feels the cold! The cold and the jumper obviously make the perfect temp for Hen as he doesnt stop playing from sun up to sun down!!! Oh and we added a bale of straw and shavings to his play pen now its winter and you have never seen such fun!! You can jump on bales, chew on them, dig in the shavings and no one tells you off lol!
