Hiya Basetpals!! Hope y'all had a good Tgiving w/your peeps.
well, mine turned out to be a bit eventful, kinda like Miss Sallie's here. Remember how i trained my person to give me some of whatever she's eating at every meal? well, it may have backfired some. we're not totally sure. but here are the usual suspects: 1. cheese fondue w/3 fancy cheeses in them. i ate lots of bread dipped in cheese fondue yesterday when we ate outdoors at the cafe w/my person's friend. i used those basset eyes to get yummy cheese fondue from them. 2. roast pig from Tgiving dinner. i et pork knuckle bones from the dogstore, so didn't think twice when i et some roast pig leg (no bones, just picked the meat off) 3. rawhide shaped like a straw 4. hard chicken meat dog treat bone well, last nite i seemed to be ok until 2am, when my person found me puking on the bed! (took Hen's suggestion and put on my sweatshirt to keep the fleeaz inside, and i got to stay sleeping on da bed). i'd already puked 3 times before she woke up. i puked up my entire dinner from 8pm, mostly undigested (um. sorry to gross y'alls out here). she cleaned it up & then i puked some more. we have 4 blankets waiting to be washed now + a bedsheet. then i got thirsty & hopped down and drank some water. uh oh! my person didn't know any better. i puked that up too. this morning, my person fed me one piece of chicken, one baby carrot, one cracker, and a little egg white. i puked those up too! no diarrhea.. yet! last time i made stool was early yesterday morning. well, my person wasn't super worried, except for possible obstructions or upsetting my tummy w/the fatty foods, just thought the vet's office would have instructions bout what to watch for & stuff. but no, the vet wanted to see me i mean don't get me wrong, melikes the vet place and likes going there. but yeah, i wuz at the vet's on Tgiving this year. well, from all the fatty foods, they think the most likely thing is a mild pancreatitis. yikes! that would be from the cheese & roast pig, neither of which i usually eat, even tho i'm used to table scraps. bad person! they did an ultrasound (felt funny on my tummy) tho didn't find much & didn't charge us for that. also, i lost more than 1 1/2 pounds although i tried & tried to gain more weight, i only weigh 35 something pounds now... so, they also gave me subcutaneous fluids. basset pals, do u know what that is????????? we didn't! i ended up w/a baseball size HUMP on the back of my neck ![]() Worm the hunchback i looked like. so scary. we were gonna take a pic of it, but by the time i gots home, it morphed and ended up on my right side... it moved my stripe over to the right! craazeeee! and they gave me a shot of Famotidine to help my tummy. then sent me home for tonite's test. the test is that i can't eat tonite & in the morning i get chicken + rice, and we sees what happens. if i puke, they wanna see me again at that point, it's most likely a bad pancreatitis or an obstruction. if i don't, i'm on the road to recovery. so pleeaz hope that i dont' pukes again in the morning.well, the test is KILLIN' ME. i haven't eaten in such a long time now. last real meal that i kept down was, like, 2 days ago, at this point. my person's trying to sleep, but i'm at the door whining telling her to GIVE ME SOME FOOD. it's gonna be a long nite here too. anyways, please hope that i pass my test in the morning. --Worm

Awww... Poor Wormy... I hope you pass your test this morning. We had an uneventful night. But Sallie still has the runnies. But she's drinking water and looking around, so I'm thinking she may be feeling better. Holidays are hard on puppies, aren't they? I hope you feel better too!

Oh Wwormmie I am so sorry you are sick... but don't blame Mommy too much -- ya would have driven your Ma nuts if she wouldn't have let you try them.. I have never had pork .. Mom was told years ago that pork is no good for dogs ....too rich or something like that and now that she has read about you it will never pass my lips. You know, Wwormmie sometimes cheese binds all the poop together and makes ya not go ... so maybe thats why your not pooping.
So this hump ya had -- was it from the Subcutaneous fluids -- do they just inject them under your skin where they form a humpy lumpy till they are absorbed?? I am sorry that ya had a rotten Thanksgiving and I am crossing everything I have hoping you pass your test (hope ya poop soon too)... let me know asap puleez! Love Pais |

Feel better Wworm! Pancreatitis is definitely yucky. Our dachshund, Buster, had that once and was a sick lil boy for a couple of days. I'm sure your peeps will take extra special care of you and you'll be feeling better real soon.

Molly knows what the hump on the back is like...she had the subcutaneous fluids last summer when we were diagnosing the Addison's. Sometimes it leaks, but it's just water and such, no biggie. When the dr. first does it, sometimes it bleeds a tiny bit. The fluids are miraculous and sometimes are just what a dog (or cat) needs to get on the road to recovery.
I hope you feel better soon Wormie and pass that test of yours. Stay off the people food...I know it's hard, but it's important that you do. To add to the mix of T-day basset afflictions, I found a small bump on Winston's chin. Could be kitty related...he's had a couple tussles over the last day or 2. Or it could be something more. We'll see how it goes. So all the sick bassets - GET BETTER! Christmas is coming and you all need to go see Santa! Gotta be well for that!

Oh Wormie, we are pleased the PJ flea idea worked, we are not pleased you are ill. Wont mummy let you have just a little piece of white meat chicken? Maybe at tea time? Hen has chicken breast when he is sick but rather than do a little meal we will give it 12 hours then shread chicken and give him a little piece every half an hour. That way the tummy isnt overloaded.
Good luck! xxx |
