Default The funny things that Bassets do!

So our rescue Ethel came to her furever home Saturday, was very sick for 2 days, and is improving by the minute!

Yesterday, she and Eclair had their first real play, it started by out of the blue Ethel bowing to Eclair and then barking! They bowed and chased, rolled and submitted, chased and tried to catch each others feet. It was great to see Eclair accept her new sister and her new sister feel so well.

Now Eclair since we adopted her has always liked to stretch and drag her legs and rub her boobies on the carpet. Low and behold, Ethel does the same thing! Eclair doesn't sit like a lady, always has one hind leg sticking to the side, low and behold, Ethel does the same!

Is she copying or do they all do it?

basset in general have poor hips so the sitting on the flank is quite common. In formal obedience it is where toughy lost most of his points because I dind not make an obedience sit a priority. With tough the funny thing was on the long downs and sits what ever flank he did the long sit on he would switch to the other flank for the down,

the dragging the hind legs streach though not as common as the flank sit is not unusal for the breed as well. For most basset the hind end is along for the ride they don't have much independant control over it. It is one area I spend a lot of time with in fundamental agility training with basset hind end awareness and control.

That is not to say either behavior was not learned by observing another dog. Macey is fantastic at that. Fischer taugh her how to open the refridgerator, scraping the ground after going poo She learned how to control fischer via barking and growing from mariah. She learn very early on how to hunt bunnies by obesrving other dogs as well. Each dog has there own individual learning style and what works best from them and for Macey it is clear observing other dogs.

I DO THE SAME BUT NOT THE BOOBIES PART. ECK! GIRLSTUFF!

I's do this too. my 7 year old neighbor has named it the "Mermaid Sit." so it can be quite ladylike i guess Ethel & Eclair. Eck! Girlstuffs again.

Simone likes to drag her legs behind her, looks like she is stretching but I think she's too lazy to get up if she doesn't plan to move very far. She is able to "sit pretty" for a treat but most of the time sits on one hip too. She even sits like this when eats.

The fluffing silliness. I can understand fluffing a blanket to get it just so, but I've seen them fluff carpet and even concrete.

Princess Bella loves rubbing her boobies on the floor too, the more I hear of full Basset behaviour, the more I'm inclined to think that Bella is definately more Basset than Beagle.

When we're playing tug of war Bella likes to go all floppy and sort of seal slide on the carpet and be dragged around, which then results in me rofling and losing the fight.
