Default Hello I'm new here!!!

Hi! I'm new here. My name is Denise and my basset is Molly May. I came across this page while I was looking for some advice on how often it was ok to give my baby girl a bath. She's about 5 1/2 months old and I have a 7 year old son.

Molly is my second basset but my first pure bred and she's my ornery child.

Personally I only wash the dog when dirty and given that things like mud etc generally fall off once dry it it a rare occurance. that said certain skin condition etc van necesitate frequient baths. It is a somewhat of a wives tell that bathing to frequently lead to drying out the skin and increase skin problems the problem is not the frequently of bathing but imporperly rinsing of shampoo. The general rule of thumb to follow when it comes to rinsing shampoo is to rinse until no suds are present and continue to rinse after that for and equal length of time as it took to eliminate all sudsing.

Hello and welcome! I'm relatively new too!

Our first basset, we bathed every week, and he had skin conditions under his arms, etc. that we struggled with his whole life. The second one turned one last week, and I have yet to give him a full bath. The vet told us, to bath him as little as possible, and so far, his coat is beautiful and he has no skin problems.
