Default Online Pharmacies

Does anyone here have experience with the online pharmacy from Drs. Foster and Smith? I've never used one before, but I've heard their name many times. Any reason not to order meds from them?

I am looking into ways to get Molly's Percorten-V at a rate that is cheaper than my vet. I am, however, leery of getting them from a less than reputable pharmacy. I've never worried too much about saving $ on meds, but I've never faced a lifelong illness in a pet before Molly. She has Addison's Disease (as many of you know) and her Percorten is incredibly expensive ($217 for a tiny bottle from the vet - Molly uses more than half per month). Drs. Foster and Smith have the best price I've seen so far - I'll save about $40 per bottle and I'll be getting 2 bottles per order.

Any input you guys have is appreciated. Thanks!

I was going to use them, they contact the vets for the prescription and my vets told me that they will not deal with online parmacies HOWEVER they do price matchand apparently alot of vets do. I would say ask your vets if they do price match first then shop around. All we do is print off the online quote and the vets keep the print out for their records. Saves us a small fortune and definatly wrth calling and checking on!

They are the only online pharmacy our vet's office will deal with. Our doctor told us that they are very reliable and safe, but we haven't had a reason to try them out yet.

We have used them for our flea medicine, Bowser's Adequan, and many, many tropical fish orders. Once I ordered a dog moutwash stuff (that goes in the water...can't think of what it's really called right now) and it arrived smooshed and leaking. I called them, and they sent me another one free of any charge...and it was like $20 bucks! They are actually pretty awesome with nice customer service.

Also, i didn't think a vet could deny you a copy of your perscription...they may decide not to fax another place, or whatever, but i decided to look it up and found this:

Veterinarians and prescriptions (breeders, legal, store, ferret) - Animals, health, care, dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds, fish, frogs... - City-Data Forum

They have no right to tell you that you have to buy from them, however i guess it's within their right to deny faxing it or sending it to another place...though this post is from 2007...my vet got a little hurt, but we did wind up getting it from Foster's and smith!

Thanks so much, everyone. I've never heard anything bad about the company and figured you guys would have some experience with them. My vet mentioned that I could look online for Percorten, so I think they'll work with me. Believe me, with all Molly's blood work and her Prednisone, they make a good deal of money off me (they call her the million dollar dog, which is accurate for any Addison's dog - it's such a costly disease), so I am sure they'll be ok with helping me out.

I remember when the doctor called me with Molly's diagnosis, she was very hesitant to tell me the cost of meds and treatment. As it turns out, she said that many owners at that point choose to surrender their dog because they can't afford it. I understand that, but I couldn't imagine doing that to my little Molly McFreckles. The dr. was so happy when i said, "Ok, this is what we are gonna do - we are going to take care of her." I'd work a second job if I had to just to pay Molly's medical expenses.

I get there magazines all the time. I have never ordered meds from them but I have ordered dog beds. I think they are very reputable.

I order from them quite often...not prescription drugs though. Very good company. I believe that I read that you can mail in the prescription yourself if the vet won't fax it. Don't believe that they can refuse to write you out the prescription. Am going that route this spring on heartworm....much cheaper through them.

Our vets flat our refused to contact them, fax them, return emails from them etc. They are however amazing vets and when they told us they price matched it was perfect for us as it means we get the products on the day we realise we need them. They do a great price on heartworm meds and as we get pricematchd we benefit! I wouldstill advise asking your vets if they do it but if not its great that you can collect your rx from them.

I have not had any experience with an online pharmacy either and I am not even sure they are in Canada. But when our Springer was on prozac and an oral prescription for cronic ear infections I checked with my local pharmacy since it was way closer than travelling the 30 to 40 minutes to our vet.. our pharmasist called the vets office and was able to fill our prescriptions at at least a quarter of the price. I am sure that a pharmacy cannot fill all of the prescriptions but there are quite a few he told me that he can.. inquire it is worth a try
