My ten month old basset Sookie has always been a very people friendly dog. We made a big priority to introduce her to many different people and dogs as we could since we brought her home. Its turned out great, she loves everyone sometimes a little to much but were happy with her being so outgoing. I do worry because now any time we go for walks or head into the pet store even on car rides if she comes across a human or pet who wants nothing to do with her she cries and like a normal basset her cries are loud and bring lots of attention our way. I'm wondering if anyone else has this particular problem.

LOL! I've got a similar issue with Millie; sometimes I joke that I over socialized her! LOL!
Millie doesn't cry though, when people want nothing to do with her. Instead, Millie just finds someone else. Interesting though!

Oh yes, I'm told I'm very much the same way. Too friendly with everyone. When i was younger, i'd cry & cry and flat basset. Now I'm MUCH older & wiser (16 months is old ya know), and i know that i don't gets to meet & greet every dawg i see.
I also got snapped at & bitten too, so have gotten more careful. i pay attention to those growls, and leave them alone, tho it still hurts my feelings & I let out a coupla whines. but, my person was just getting mad at me this morning-- i guess i like to be "where the action is." we were at the doggie park this morning with 30something dogs. a few were getting a little huffy and in some tiffs. and my person said a few were seeming like trubble. I gravitated to all of them!! i hung out w/them & tried to get in the middle of it. oh yeah, me gots in trubble coupla times today for doing that. --Worm

At our dog park Annie is known as the "welcoming committee." She takes off to meet and greet anyone who dares step foot into the park once we are there. Luckily, most are very receptive. Annie will ever so briefly sniff the dog and then run to the human and immediately roll over ON their feet for belly rubs LOL. There is only one dog that comes by every so often that I do not allow Annie to greet, but only because we have been warned that she isn't a receptive dog at all.
And if forced to choose between playing with the other dogs or hanging with the humans, she'd pick the humans every time without question. She knows who carries the treats

PB does all of this! In fact today she whined in traffic because the guy next to us (who was also in a car) didn't pet her!! She's also been known to sit or flat basset near elementary schools or when people on the opposite sidewalk don't cross the street to greet her! Sheesh!!

Oh no whining from Henry, he stands up and blatently yells at people at the top of his voice if they walk past without touching him, i mean dont they know thats a crime! Slightly embarassing especially as he is learning to bay and makes a woowoowoo noise!

Barney does this everytime he sees someone....really breaks my heart. I live alone and while the grandkids come, much to his delight, I was on a guilt trip thinking that I was short changing him because he craved much more stimulation than I was giving him. Well, I got another puppy...Toby, a beagle, is 4 months and Barney is 8 months. What a difference it has made! This morning on our walk, a young man walked by, Barney just sat and looked at him...no vocal reaction. And yes, I also thought I had over-socialized him...can that actually be done???

Haaaahaaaa -- if ya don't know by now you will soon find out!!!! You probably do know what a flat basset is -- its when they lay down -- put their feet straight out with head down and weigh about 500 pounds -- just like a load of bricks. Usually it occurs on a walk.... or when they don't want to do something or sometimes just for fun. Usually they can't hear you when they do this --- flat basseting must cause sudden deafness in bassets.... sometimes they pretend they can't see you either!!!!

Welcome Miss Sallie...please tell us about your pup and put some pictures on...we'd love to see them. Have seen many pics on here of "flat basset"...I'm sure someone will post one for you.....it's kinda frustrating when it happens but once you get used to it, it becomes somewhat comical.
