Default Hiding Treats

Hello everyone. We seem to have a problem over here. Winnie is 14 months old and gets very compulsive about hiding her chew bones. She has been doing this for a long time and we always thought it was funny till today. She worked so hard at hiding a bone that she gave herself a sore on her nose. I am not sure what to do about it or even why she does this. Any Suggestions?

something to consider if they were something that she truely desired she would be spending her time chewing on it rather than hiding. Horder can only hoarder after their basic desires are met. So a dog that hides treat etc IMHO has to many.

Annie hides her chew bones also. I didn't figure this out until recently, I just thought she ate them really really fast LOL. Therefore...she only gets a long lasting chew a few times per year.

Lucy did this too, but never to the point of self injury. I never gave her a lot of treats or bones. I would give her one ever so often, and the first thing she would do was go hide it somewhere in the house. Then a few hours later, she would trot off (in that distinctive Basset "I've got important business" attitude), and find her bone.

I don't really have any advice for you, except to watch her and if she seems to be hurting herself hiding it, then take it away? Lucy always hides things, and I've always thought it was humorous. Sometimes, it takes me a while to find it too! She once hid her bone in the office, stood up on end against the bookcase. It actually blended in, and you would never know it was there. Today, she hid a bone under my pillow in my bed... I just found it!

The wiener dog before me tried to bury his Nylabone in the corner of the room & cover it with carpet? He was pushing the carpet with his nose... and got noseburn, and a red spot on the top of his nose where the skin was scraped away.

so from then on, when he was caught trying to bury things w/the carpet, he had to be redirected by the humans.

Barney races out the dog door and buries his...couple of days later, he brings it in....I wash it and he then will repeat the process seems like forever. Only time it upsets me is when he does it with the bully sticks. They are way too expensive to be lost out there if he forgets where he buried them.

Paisley is a firm believer in marinating her chewies at times. If she can she will bury them in the garden only to be uncovered when soft and sometimes slimmey covered in dirt. Yum Yum. She is a thief who will slink out the door with a cat toy fully hidden in her jowels unbenownst to her doorman and marinates those also until unrecognizable to the cat She has stolen a bone half her size from her golden friend looking over her shoulder to appear invisable and has hidden this one so well that even the neigbourhood police inspector cannot discover a trace. Pilfered toys are hidden behind tall tufts of grass, clumps of dirt and fallen trees only to be checked up on during forays into the yard. Forget a hiding spot NEVER!!!!

Oh that is so funny we must have a sofa monster too.

Bella has always hidden food from coming here at 12 weeks, then she used to put food in corners and continuously go round checking that it was still in place, she has hidey holes all over and gets extremely anxious if I go near the hidey hole with the hoover. She is slowly improving, she doesn't pull clothes off the radiators to cover the corners anymore.

She has a pink nose now, but I always know when she's been digging in my flowerpots to hide stuff because her nose is black. Hee hee she looks at me sometimes as if to say " well how did you find out?"
