I'm located just outside of the Memphis area and have been searching for a basset puppy for weeks, but I can't seem to find any anywhere close. I have even tried local rescue groups, but no one seems to have any full-blooded young Bassets. Would anyone know of a local breeder? I would prefer a puppy because my current dogs are older. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place... I'm new to this. Thanks!

Hiya! We live in Memphis!!! Our local basset rescue is: www.bellyrubs.org as a matter of fact, they are having their annual basset boogie THIS SATURDAY at bumpus harley davidson! you should go! You can meet all kinds of neat bassets there... not puppies normally, but a seasoned basset is as good if not better (no puppy stage--haha). My mommy is taking me to meet the houndies and rub elbows and paws. Go Tigers! ~E |

The more people who know you're looking, the better! :-) Besides, you never know when one of those older golden hearts, will capture yours!

Please, please please do your research when you find a breeder. I am adopting a gal that has been used as a backyard breeder and is so painfuilly sick and underweight (20.8 lbs at rescue)
No animal should be abused for profit, and unfortunately, that is what so many of these breeders are doing. Until we all take a stand, the problem will not go away. There are some wonderfull Bassets out there for adoption, young, old and in between. I started looking for another to adopt 3 weeks ago and since I started the adoption process with Ethel, there have been a total of 7 new bassets rescued within an hour of me, so keep looking, your new best friend is just around the corner! |

Thanks for all of the advice. We are looking for a puppy because we think our other dog would adjust better. I did talk to my boyfriend and it seems as if we are going to attend the Basset Boogie on Saturday. We are hoping we will either meet our new addition or meet someone who may be able to help us find what we're looking for.

A puppy was better for Lucy too, so I do understand completely! Definitely talk with them, and they will be able to help you find what you're looking for and they will be able to tell you who to stay away from!
