Bessi started her first monthly thingie. Being a daddy of two boys (Humanz) I am completly il-equipt to handle such things. I have not had female doggies before so have absolutly no clue. My wife is in meetings all day so I can't ask her.
We have a family holidy photo shoot scheduled for tomorrow including the puppies. Should I move it to next week? Should I have Boomer knit her a diaper?

This is really one of the main reasons I would never have an unspayed dog. No interest in dealing with this mess (literally).

We wanted to wait until they at least had their first cycle to have them spayed. I guess I thought day would not come this soon. They are 6 months old.

Thats right,6 months is usually the magic number. You first and foremost need to be dilagent about not letting her out by herself at all for about the rest of this month, and about two weeks into next month ,at the very least. When she first comes in the color is usually red and noticable. Some keep themselves very clean ,some do not.Mark on your calendar the date she started. In about 10 days the color will lighten and that is the most likely time she will accept a male for breeding(some earlier, some a little later, they didn't read the book on this.) She does not need to go looking for a boy ,they will find her.Outside keep her on a leash at all times, all times. Yes,I repeated myself. Males can sniff her out up to a mile away. Her sister should follow right behind her in a few days.To be safe I usually plan two weeks coming in , and two weeks going out.Since you will be getting them spayed after next month you will have 5-6 months before they come in heat again.Mark the date she is done. As she is going out the color will change again back to a redish rusty color. Get set for the duration.

Twinnies Dad I feel for ya!!!! Two girls at the same time -- quick send the sister for a spay!!!!!! We found ourselves in the same mess with Pais -- actually had her all set to go then they cancelled surgeries between Christmas and New Years then she came into heat!!!! We had never had a female before and also had no experience and I am a Mom too! My 25 year old daughter had to tell me what was going on. We were fortunate to be able to gate her in the kitchen for the duration when we were not following her around mopping up . Actually we had it pretty easy but I felt VERY sorry for my little girl!!!! Please do follow Soundtrack's advice and keep those BOY doggies away!! Good luck and hope you can get the other twin in soon!

I don't have any experience with them being in cycle, but I wouldn't cancel the family photo! I would put the girls in the diapers, and then get them both holiday sweaters to wear! The sweaters should cover the diapers well enough...
