Not arkansaw but AHBA holds trials in MO

this is a link to where the last one was held [url=http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/moatlas/AreaSummaryPage.aspx?txtAreaID=6101&txtAreaNm=pony express&txtCounty=&txtRegion=&txtUserID=guest&txtD ivision=[/url]

there is always talk of a club starting up on OK but that has never happened yet
There are AHBA state Reps in TX, MO and OK that may be able to help you as well

AHBA requirements are the dog be under 15" and look like and best to your knowledge be a prue bred basset AKC or other registration is not required.

the nearest akc event is ohio

Sounds like fun and sure the girls would enjoy. Last year they flushed quail on our desert walks. Wish we had something like that in Nevada.

Can dogs participate who have no training at all? Charlotte would love to get off the leash and run around with other dogs. Although I think after a few minutes she would wander off on her own because she always does that at the doggie park haha.

The only training Macey got was watching other dogs at such events. Unless the are following their nose the basic nature of the basset is not to wander that far away much dufferent than say a beagle which say hey I 'm gone keep up if you can. Basset stick in the area and check back in periodically. It is one of the trait older hunters like about them they will follow a human pace rather than the human having to match theirs. Now if they are chasing something it is quite different.

So a field trial is rating a dogs basic intuitive instinct practic of coarse will make it better but it certainly is not required.

FWIW the nearst Field trial for me is 5 1/2 hours away they move the location around check back in January when the 2012 schedule is posted aslo a MO Hunt Pack (formal english stype) has a Hunt that is open to other called the Gold cUP TCB Gold Cup
Quote:
The Gold Cup is held every spring on the third full weekend in march. Basset and Beagle packs from across the country are invited to participate in this field trial event. Packs meet on Saturday to enter then a formal ball and Calcutta auction are held that evening. The Gold Cup Stake takes place on Sunday morning when the hounds are hunted jointly and are evaluated by a pair of guest judges. The results are announced at the hunt brunch where awards are presented. Colors and other recognitions are also made at this gala affair.
however it does not seem they are keen on have untested hounds.
