Smile Thankyou Worm!!!

Well it just goes to show that its the little things that make us happy. Today i got home to find a parcel for Henry at the door. Clearly Henrys sense of smell was working as for the first time ever he decided to open the mail all on his own.
This was a present for us both from Wormie!!!! For me, marmite and chocolate digestives, for Henry a rope and ball toy,a pull along basset hound...and some SPAM!!!!!
Henry has spent the entire afternoon running in circles not knowing which to play with first and i have enjoyed the peace of knowing he isnt removing the trailer electrics - which he already has done this week! - to enjoy coffee and a biscuit!
We are so happy and are now officially Worms penpals so to all the other folk out here, make a new penpal friend and send them a surprise...It made our day and il bet it will make theirs. Thankyou wormie and wormies mum, we love you! xxx

I read this post...then darted downstairs to ask the folks from England what the heck marmite and digestives are I have seen them in stores here but never tried either.

Silly story about our visitors from across the pond...the husband wanted to purchase a MacBook Pro since they are quite a bit cheaper here than in the UK so we said we would take them to the Apple store. The wife, not too knowledgeable about the computer type things was quite distraught when we got there and there were no apples, bananas, etc. We all got a good laugh out of that one. Another, we went out to lunch yesterday and they ordered "chips" with their sandwiches...were baffled when they received a bag of potato chips, or "crisps", instead of french fries

Anyways, very nice of the Wormie and his person to hook you up!!

What a sweet thing to do!

P.s I'm afraid Marmite = evil in my house, you really do love it or hate it.

Annie, your visitors will be amused by this...My husbands first attempt at marmite was to spread it on toast like Jam in a thick layer, it made him so ill he hasnt touched it since! I did tell him you spread it on then take it off but would he listen...no!!! Also ask your relatives if they know bovril, another genious invention!
In our house i have to admit ccertain things i get shipped from home
Yorkshire tea
Chocolate
Oxo cubes
Bisto gravy and
Bitter lemon
These are the staples of existance - ok maybe i could survive without gin and bitter lemon but what would be the point!

Poor lady confusing her green grocers and the apple store! Its totally understandable, i still have major confusion with American words, pavement we walk on dont drive on, aluminum [aluminium to us folk] and dont start on me your phrases!!!

Pricey...your a southerner! Lol

I highly recommend you get a basset penpal. Its so much fun! x

But on the other hand I'm always asking my US friends what things like Chicken Fried Steak is, and Grits sound horrendous.

Henry'smum, I can't ever imagine living without my Yorkshire tea, you must need to keep quite a stock in to save running out. I'm a northerner and think that Marmite is truely awful.

I'm not much on grits (since I ate it a lot as a kid), but hubby and kids love it. I've never even heard of marmite.

Oh Henry's Mom I am so glad that you are penpals with Wwormie. It's funny the things that we eat that remind us of home or our childhood. I just came home from a visit to my brother and brought him his favorite breakfast spread -- Map-o-spread -- a disgustingly sweet maple flavored spread that one spreads on toast and is only available in this part of Canada and not in the US. I was worried that his tastes may have changed but nope -- he said it was a taste of home!
You should come up here to do your marketing -- many grocery aisles of "British" foods -- I guess this area is quite diverse since it was settled by immigrents over the years.
On a funny note -- my British Aunt when going to the grocers in the early years would ask the butcher for a "joint" for Sunday dinner -- of course we teenagers thought she was a hoot.
Hope you are enjoying your Marmite -- by the way does Henry like it?

Paisleys mum; i have just realised why the butchers look at me funny when I ask for a joint!!! It never occured to me lol!!! Henry took a big bite out of my marmitey toast, wrinkled his snout, spat it out and looked at me like i was eating basset hound! He thrn gingerly tried my coffee to make sure i hadnt poisened that also. It was hillarious!
Bella and Claires mum, Marmite is a yeast extract. It has been around for ever and runs with the tag line'you either love it or you hate it' and its true. i have never found anyone impartial to it!
Boomers mom / Esther. Grits look like a micture between frog spawn, cement and bad poridge. My husband has tried to persuade me to try it for years and it just turns my stomach to look at it, even though everyone tells me it is yummy!
Nutty pigs, i ask about chicken fried steak everytime i see it and i still have no idea why you would fry steak, let alone what it is!
I have a huge tea mountain in my cupboard, when i run low i send distress signals out and i get random packages from home! [and i send them texmati rice! I love that the texans decided to make basmati and name it after themselves lol!]
