Default Puking puppy

Penny threw up today on my bedroom carpet. She was acting normal though so I cleaned it up. About an hour ago, I gave her some water and she threw that up about 10 minutes after drinking it. She's still wanting to eat and drink, but I've decided to fast her from water for a couple hours and no food for 24. Then back to rice for a bit.

Hopefully its just something she ate. Penny has gotten into the habit lately of trying to get into the trash can. Nothing I do keeps her out either. I'm thinking she went in and ate some onion or something (since we've been cooking with that today).

Any suggestions for keeping her out of the cans? The kitchen one is easy, but she's been going through the bathroom trashcans too. If she didn't get an onion, she got into some cotton balls that had peroxide on them.

She has me worried.

What you are doing is fine. Dogs puke pretty easily, unless they seem sick, won't eat, or they keep puking I generally don't worry about it. Especially if she's gotten into peroxide since that's what's generally used to make them puke.

The only way to keep them out of the trash is to put it out of reach. In the case of the bathroom that means I keep the door closed at all timed.

Agree on keeping doors closed, cans up, etc. Gotta do what you gotta do.

Also agree with Soundtrack on the fact that dog's puke pretty easily. I used to freak out when Annie puked. And by freak out I mean completely overreact. I'd cry like a child, automatically think she is gonna die, and google every possible reason for the vomit. All this even while she is running around playing like her normal goofy self. I.am.such.a.dork.

Found a small pile of puke in the yard yesterday. Odd since she hasn't puked in ages. But the little pile consisted of two leaves and half of a small unripe tomato. Little pigger will never learn

Snoopy was puking a lot, and it was making him lose weight because of his intestines. We give him 1/2 pepcid tablet, and it seems to help.

when i first came home, my peeples moved the kitchen trash can to inside the cupboard, so i've never had a chance to rifle through it. if you can't though, and have to keep it outside, how about getting a tall trash can w/a lid (maybe a strong lid, hehe, knowing bassets)? that could help.

my peeple have been happy that i don't seem interested in bathroom trash. the wienie dog before me was really into bathroom trash... yeck. and yeah, they eventually closed the door to the bathroom too.

hope ya feel bettah soon, Penny.

Boomer used to get in the kitchen trash when he was a pup, but leave it alone now. However, the bathroom garbage is another story. Even though it has a lid, he still has to dumpster dive, and so I keep the bathroom door shut. He brings out rather, ummm, "interesting" things and runs around with them.

Penny likes to use the bathroom as her bedroom. I've got my rugs in there and she loves sleeping on them. We went ahead and just moved her blankies in there so she could sleep. She just recently started poking around in them; she never does it when she sleeps at night or if she goes in there during the day when we're gone. She started doing it when me and my boyfriend are both home and just hanging out. As for the kitchen, she has been doing that. She never can get into it since its so high up unless its full all the way; she's never tried knocking it over before to get something.

I'm gonna try and get some cans with lids for the bathrooms. Those seem to be the biggest problem with her.

IMHO why not simply remove the can from the room. You can try a foot activated can but they usually need to some means to keep them in place bungee cord etc becasause the dog can start beeting on them. and Often given enough time they will figure how to deffet them. The other option is deal with the same as a Kitchen can. Using the underthe sing cabnet to house the trash can and a clip proof clip on the door. or linen closset etc.

'Cuz I'm too dam lazy to individually cart each item from upstairs to the downstairs garbage!

Besides, it keeps them from drinking the blue water in the toilet.

I had to get heavy duty garbage cans all through the house that have the pop up lids. For us anyway it was the only way to keep any of them out. Kitchen, bathrooms and offices. Funny as could be the day I came home with all of them – they went from room to room and checked them out – and I could swear gave me a dirty look. Don’t want to jinx myself – but it’s been years since they’ve gotten anything out of the garbage.
