Default Lightning left his heart in WV

Last weekend Lightning and I went on our first ever weekend getaway together. I probably should have done more of these over the years, as he wasn't quite sure what was going on. But overall he was very good! We went to an abandoned insane asylum in the middle of West Virginia to meet up with a bunch of friends. Two of my friends brought their two dogs, a golden and a very tall hound mix. Lightning had stayed with the golden 10 years ago when I went to Africa for the first time. I don't think Lightning remembered Henry, but Henry sure did remember Lightning! He was all over him! Luckily Henry is old too, so he couldn't do any damage. And I think Lightning actually enjoyed hanging with some canine buds for a change. He was very good in the hotel room, even when I wasn't there. I gave in and let him sleep in bed with me (I paid extra to have a dog in the room so I figured I'd better get my $$$ worth). It was so nice to snuggle with him again. I had to stop letting him sleep with me when I got Stomps, so that would have been 12 years ago. I don't know if poor Henry will get over losing Lightning a second time. Lightning of course has moved on already.

I'm thinking of inventing a bed sheet dispenser. It basically will look like a sheet-sized roll of paper towels. You put it on the floor at the end of your bed, and every time you need a clean sheet you just rip off the current one and pull a new one up on the bed. Once I have that invented and a working prototype installed in my bedroom, Lightning is welcome to lumber on up. Either than or he sleeps in pajamas to keep him from shedding in my bed. It's the one fur-free zone in my house, and I'd like to keep it that way. Sorry Lightning.

Even tho I let Boomer sleep with us, I still like your idea of a bed sheet dispenser.

Wonderful idea! Now that it's gotten cold everyone seems to dive under the covers. In the morning I strip the bottom sheet and run it though the dryer which does a good job of getting rid of the basset residue. Now if I could only get them to sleep from top to bottom instead of side to side.

Yea for you – you got two for one – a great weekend getaway – and a snuggle buddy again. I know I miss snuggling with all mine – but after Flash broke her back I stopped letting “ANYONE” on the bed anymore. I only get to snuggle when I sleep on the floor with them anymore. Hope you got lots of good photos to go with the great weekend….
