Default Current Basset Owner, Looking for A New Puppy Through the Right Breeder

This is a great site and I am so glad we found it. I am hoping to find a breeder on this site or a recommendation on where to find one.

We have a Basset (Mr. Sullivan) who is about 11.5 years old. While still healthy and happy, we are looking for a new Basset companion. Before our current dog, we had another Basset (Bailey) that passed about 10 years ago. So this would be our 3rd Basset.

We now have children, two boys (ages 6 and 3), stay at home mom, large house, on over an acre of wooded land, fenced.

We believe that we are an ideal home to nuture and welcome a new Basset puppy and we are trying to find a breeder that can help us find a special dog. Our previous Bassets have been AKC registered, purebred, from what I would call "hobbyists". Since then, we have really come to appreciate the breed and we have a more particular taste that we are trying to achieve this time.

We are looking for a stocky tri-color male with lots of skin. I suppose more of a "European" Basset puppy. Recognizing for most reputable breeders that its not about the money, we are prepared to pay a significant premium for the pick of the litter (or closest to it assuming the breeder often takes that first choice). Money no object.

We are looking to connect with a breeder that will appreciate our situation and a family like ours owning one of their puppies.

Recognizing that rushing is not the way to do this, we are willing to wait as long as necessary. Obviously if there is something that could work more near term, that is even better! Please respond or PM with any ideas for breeders, and we look forward to being part of this online community.

We are in Austin, TX, but would travel anywhere to pick up our new family member. thanks!

There are a ton of good breeders in Texas. I would suggest starting at the website of the Basset Hound Club of America, and from there checking out the list of Basset Hound clubs in Texas. If you contact the club closest to you they will likely be able to direct you to someone appropriate.

Thanks. Very interesting. We haven't really come across Texas breeders in reading/researching on this site. Some in Canada, California, etc. but not Texas. I guess we need to look harder. Texas would certainly be convenient, but we are prepared to buy from anywhere nationally.
