Default save a Basset Pup from Petland in Strongsville, Ohio

Hello Folks,
my wife and I came across this gorgeous tricolor female Basset Puppy at our local mall here in Strongsville, Ohio. She is at the PetLand store inside the mall. She has been there a few months and her current price is $299.00!!!! If I had the room, and a bigger yard, she would be Fred and Ginger's new housemate. It really saddens me to see this sweet Basset waiting for her new friend to come and adopt her, but if this is a way to help her find a new home, then that is just as good to me.
Here is the number for Petland if anyone is truly interested.

Aw, poor girl. Hope she gets a good home before too long. Unfortunately, I'm sure another will take her place when she goes. I frequently see the same truck at my local Fred Meyers selling Jack Russels out of the back. It's a shame that some people overbreed with no regard for the animal and only care about the money aspect.

Yep I totally agree, but unfortunately as long as people buy from them they’ll keep doing it.

I know this may sound strange but if you're thinking about buying this girl (it's not adopting, it's buying), don't.

You may "save" this dog, but in doing so you increase the profits of the folks who put her there in the first place. Your money is a vote that says you are okay with selling dogs in pet stores which in all but the most extreme cases is a result of extreme cruelty to the parents. You are encouraging them to put more dogs in her place. Her parents are most likely locked up in a puppy mill somewhere and buying her only supports that practice.

Someone will buy her. You may feel guilty leaving her there but you should feel infinitely more guilt for buying her.

There are only a handful of pet stores that still sell puppies. The Petland chain still does (not all locations, but most). If you care about the condition in which dogs are bred in this country, I suggest you support one of the many stores that refuses to do so. Pet Supplies Plus is a good alternative. I have met their CEO and he is a huge rescue and responsible breeding advocate.

As much as I love fur-babies. I could never purchase one from Pet shop. I think that most cater to puppy mills. As much as I feel for these pups, I think that they are pre disposed to either health or behaviorable problems.

Here, in Indiana, Petland and Uncle Bill's puppies that aren't sold are given to shelters after they aren't cute and little anymore...

Lucy&Millie, your right, that happens a lot of places. (I can only imagine that is the BEST case scenario too...)

Fred's Dad - please contact Ohio Basset Rescue - they may be able to help the pet store turn over the pup without charge Ohio Basset Rescue Home Page

You cant save a puppy by paying for it it only encourages the store to buy more but if a particular breed does not sell they are less likely to purchase more.
