Basset hound rules

1. The Basset is not allowed in the house.
   
   
2. Okay, the Basset is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms.
3. The Basset is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture.
4. The Basset can get on the old furniture only, but has to stay off the new couch.
5. The Basset can get on all the furniture, but is no allowed to sleep with the humans on the bed.
6. Okay, the Basset is allowed on the bed, but only by invitation.
7. The Basset can sleep on the bed whenever he wants, but not under the covers.
8. The Basset can sleep under the covers by invitation only.
9. The Basset can sleep under the covers every night.
10. Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the Basset.

General rules

1. If I like it, it's mine.
2. If it's in my mouth, it's mine.
3. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
4. If I can take it from you, it's mine.
5. If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours.
6. If it just looks like mine, it's mine.
7. If I saw it first, it's mine.
8. If it's edible, it's mine.
9. If you have something and put it down, it's mine.
10. If I chew something up, all the pieces are mine.
11. If it get tired of it, it's yours.
12. If I want it back, it's mine.

Oh man!!!! I hate rules – but I do remember the first ones – I just choose to keep forgetting them. And with age I’m finding it easier and easier to forget

They remind me of a story about my Lucy – she absolutely loves our big chair in the family room – and believes it’s hers – plain and simple. One night I was in “her” chair – she came in the family room and gave me a dirty look then a big sigh and walked into the kitchen and all I could hear was her constant moaning and moaning and moaning until she finally fell asleep with a big sigh. UNTIL – I needed a pop – I got up to get one and I see one eye open when I came into the kitchen and faster than you can blink your eye – she looked at me – looked in the direction of the chair – then bolted in the chairs direction and I found myself racing her so I could have dibs on the chair. I won but only by a hair – and for the rest of the night I had to share it with my 75lb Lucy on my lap. And I never did get my pop – I had to call my hubby up from downstairs to get one for me or I would have lost it for sure.

yes, i have 3 dogs, one is a basset, im the process of adopting another basset.......just cannot resist another!

I seriously thought my dad (from England) was the only person on earth interested in eating Spam! I get it now...must be a British thing. Gross...but yes, we do have plenty of Spam here
