Default Doggy Day Care

I was wondering if anybody had any experience with the doggy day camp at petsmart. Hickory spends a lot of time at home in the crate during the week when my fiance and me are at work. He does not show any signs of separation anxiety actually, but he gets very worked up when we get home, which is expected. I feel like he would really like to go to something like this maybe once a week to break things up, and he loves other dogs, but is the only dog of the house at the moment. Anyway, does anybody have experience with this program, and have any reviews of it? I live in long island, new york, if anybody has suggestions for similar programs. Thanks!

Sorry, I don’t but what I would do is Google – “doggy day camp at petsmart reviews” and add you city to the search – you’ll find you can get lots of info this way.

When you get home – do you by chance take him for a little walk after being in the crate all day?

Good luck finding your day camp – I’m sure if you can find a good one he’ll love it.

Hickory this sounds exactly like our situation. We've never used Petsmart DDC but my vet offers "Bark n Stretch doggy day camp" and we take Bernie every wednesday. He loves it!! and he doesn't have the anxiety of going to the vet because he relates it to playtime. He's there all day and when we pick him up he is passed out in the back seat before we can even get on the road good. He's usually good for a few days. Have you considered checking with a vet?

Henry goes to day care at our vets which he just loves! Like Bernie it means that he has no vet anxiety as he is constantly being fussed with and played with. Our vet runs a k9 camp but we choose for Hen to go to the surgery as believe it or not it is quieter, he gets more 1 to 1 attention and he still gets to play with other dogs as our vet and nurses take their dogs into work for him! It costs us $7 per day from 7am to 7pm if necessary and often if he is there just a few hours or if he has been kenneled more than usual due to emergencys they do not charge us at all. I would recommend asking your vets about day boarding and seeing if they do it or who they recommend.

Yes, I take him for as many walks as possible. I take him on a little walk in the morning if I'm not running late, and at least one long walk when I get home. Tomorrow I'm going to try letting him free in the house again, although last time he took to ripping up the carpet. $7 a day sounds really good. Petsmart wants $23, and thats actually the cheapest I can find in the area. I do appreciate all the help. Anybody from the long island area out there?

Oh, but the problem is that Hickory is not yet neutered. I forgot that this was an issue. I am waiting until 10-11 months (he is 8 months now).

Bernie is not neutered either and there are several others a doggie day camp that aren't either. There hasn't been any issues and they keep a close eye on them. There is someone with them at all times.

Gandy loves going to doggy day care. He comes home thirsty and exhausted.

Meloves doggie daycare. We are in suburbia but very close to urban life where there are many, many dogs.

In fact, we were reminded recently, that in SF, there are more DOGS than CHILDREN! yikes! but more fun for me, hee hee. This past weekend, I went to a doggie Halloween Street Partee (sorry, no pics, my person wasn't in her right mind) in a town called Los Gatos near Santa Cruz beaches, where they also said there are more dogs than children...!

so that being said, we have lotsa options here. prices reflect urban prices if you ask me. I go to 2 different ones: one is a house that they let us dogs take over. Methinks there are 15-20 dogs there & costs mid to low $20's per visit. There's another awesome facility w/great reviews, so I get to go there too.. they charge $35/visit. There are 60-70 dogs there, split into 2 rooms. Right now, I'm still in the small dog room.

I get to go to daycare once/week from about 7:30-6ish. It is very fun! i am told i have the "zoomies" and am active the hole time, playing w/other puppies, esp. I m a barker when i play. it kinda drives peeples nuts. I am tired the rest of that night & the next day too! my person says that's a good thing.

We routinely go to 3 different Petsmarts here (depending what direction our errands are taking us). They all have daycares & the doggies seem pretty happy there. I never tried it tho, so I dunno. Looked like there were 12-15 dogs there. We could see them through the glass.

btw, I thought someone posted a basset meetup/playdate from your area recently here, along w/lotsa pics. If you find that person, maybe they can help you too. I thought it was ~3 months ago or so...
