( Not to be macabre, but Opus loved cheese and cream, it was like the Ambrosia of the Gods to my stubby cowboy. So yesterday Andrew and I made this for him. Lightly grilled beef burger, smothered in cream, layered with cheese, sprinkled liberally with fine italian bacon, and an additional few whirls of yet more whipped cream. It was the last thing he ate and he loved it.)
I just wanted to quickly say thank you to everyone for your kindess and wonderful words over the last day or so. It means a lot to Andrew and me. We are– naturally– heartbroken and bereft at the moment; the house is too quiet and I cry easily every time I pass where Opus' bed was in our kitchen, by the radiator. But in another way I am glad Opus went as he did; loved, warm, filled with food and surrounded by his people. Would that all dogs should pass this way. I'll be stopping by this forum regularly to check up on the progress of all the other wonderful hounds. I wish you all health and happiness and above all, I wish you long and loving time with all your bassets. Take care, Arlene and Andrew.

I second that. I'm just so very sorry for your loss.

I'm glad it ended with Opus a happy boy. That's how Spencer went too. He had all he wanted to eat & went to heaven in his own bed with my arms around him. That's a memory I'm glad I have. I couldn't change what happened, but I feel I made the best of it for Spencer. It sounds like you did the same for Opus.

Maybe with time your space in the kitchen will be filled with more love and drool. Im sure eventually there will be a little person out there just waiting to be taught about cream cheese and kisses.
Good luck for the next few days |

What hound wouldn't have loved that meal?! Opus was a very lucky boy to have you both in his life. You've done right by him, rest assured. Now, may you find peace in the good memories of him.
Much love to you both!
